Takuma Asano scores as Bochum fire five past Hoffenheim
Takuma Asano netted his first Bundesliga goal since April as Bochum ran out as 5-2 winners over relegation rivals Hoffenheim.
Bochum 5-2 Hoffenheim
Goals: 1-0 Hofmann 22’ (assist: Antwi-Adjei) 2-0 Förster 30’ (assist: Antwi-Adjei), 3-0 Asano 40’ (assist: Antwi-Adjei), 3-1 Baumgartner (49’) (assist: Angelino), 4-1 Masovic 69' (assist: Förster), 4-2 Dabbur 77', 5-2 Broschinski 83' (assist: Losilla)
Bochum immediately found their feet against out-of-form Hoffenheim as they returned to the Vonovia Ruhrstadion – the scene of four home wins in a row. Philipp Hofmann and Erhan Masovic both had early opportunities from corners, with centre-back Masovic found in front of an open net but unable to send the ball goalwards. Asano then drilled a shot wide as the hosts continued to push. The inevitable opening goal soon followed as Christopher Antwi-Adjei twisted free in the box and laid across for Hofmann to tap in. Masovic had another chance on the volley before Antwi-Adjei cut back for Philipp Förster to apply a slick finish from outside the box and double the lead. The dominant hosts made it three before the break as Asano chased through the Hoffenheim defence to slot past Baumann - with Antwi-Adjei again providing the assist.
The visitors made four changes at the break and were finally able to muster some attacking threat of their own. Christoph Baumgartner took hold of a floated cross-field pass from Angelino, checked inside and lodged a tidy finish into the bottom corner to give Hoffenheim hope within minutes of the restart. Bochum responded and while the second period was more evenly contested than the first, it was the hosts who continued to control most of the play. Masovic duly restored the three-goal lead by heading in his second goal in two games from a Förster corner. The visitors showed some late fight as Munas Dabbur latched onto a loose ball in the area to score his side’s second. Moritz Broschinski then added a fine fifth on his Bundesliga debut for Bochum from the edge of the box to complete the resounding win.
