Final thoughts: Wild match ends in a draw
Shortly after, the final whistle blows and FCK must somehow feel frustrated despite coming back from a 0-2 deficit. However, the Red Devils also had a lot of bad luck with three woodwork hits from Ache, who at least managed to secure the equaliser. Although the expected goals (xG) statistics speak a clear language, Magdeburg can be pleased with a hard-fought, but of course somewhat fortunate point gain after playing with a man down for more than 50 minutes.

Woodwork! Ache hits the post again!
It's unbelievable. Opoku delivers the ball into the penalty area, Mause holds it up strongly and lays it off to Ache, who pushes the ball from the penalty spot onto the right post.

Can the visitors salvage a point?
For the visitors, securing a point is now the priority, and after the equaliser, they have fully committed to defending. So far successfully, as Lautern have not created any more clear-cut chances since the 2-2 draw.

Magdeburg goalscorers substituted
Coach Titz makes another double substitution. Can El-Zein and Amaechi, who replace the two goalscorers, help? The visitors would probably be satisfied with the one point now.

Goooal! The equaliser! Ache rewards himself
The best player of the day finally gets his reward! First, he misses his seventh chance today when his shot from a tight angle is saved by Reimann. But from the resulting corner, the spell is broken! Ache stands completely unmarked at the six-yard box and nods it in!

Strong Ache
Ache is putting in a strong performance today, particularly in the second half where he's involved in virtually every attacking move by his team, largely because he keeps winning the ball and holding it up against the Magdeburg defence. The striker is only missing a goal to cap it off.

Half-time: What a match in Kaiserslautern!
Three goals at the Betzenberg, one from the penalty spot, plus a sending-off. Kaiserslautern have had the upper hand since at least the 30th minute, with Ache and the impressive Yokota repeatedly causing danger. Earlier, Magdeburg seemed to have everything under control after their early double strike, but now it's all to play for. Especially as the hosts will be playing with a man advantage following the red card for Magdeburg's Michel.

Ache again
After the goal to pull one back and with the numerical advantage, Lautern now sense an early equaliser. Ache cuts in from the right into the penalty area, but his low shot from about 16 metres lands in Reimann's hands.
36'
Red card for Michel!
Having given away the penalty, Michel can't help himself and fouls Yokota again. The busy Lautern player runs towards the penalty area and is pushed by Michel. There's hardly any other choice. A crazy match, Magdeburg now down to ten men.
34'
Can Lautern still turn it around?
It's a well-deserved goal for the home side, who have remained calm despite the clear deficit. Ache had already had two chances before this, and Lautern are now well in the game.

Goal! Tomiak scores - Lautern are back in it!
Just like in the cup match, the Lautern penalty taker keeps his nerve. The centre-back steps up and slots it low into the bottom left corner, as Reimann dives the other way.

Seemingly the first quiet phase of the match, Magdeburg tries to control possession.

Kaars denied by Krahl
A breathless match at the Betzenberg. Kaars breaks free on the right, but Krahl makes himself big and prevents the visitors from going 3-0 up.
20'
Ache!
That should have been the goal to pull one back. Yokota dribbles through half of Magdeburg's defence from the left and lays it back to Ache near the byline, but the striker fails to make proper contact with the ball from about six metres out, allowing the visitors to clear for a corner.

Another chance for the visitors
Magdeburg remains a constant threat, Gnaka sends Loric into the penalty area, who tries to play it across, but Krahl snatches the ball.
15'
Crazy start in Lautern
What an opening quarter of an hour on the Betzenberg. First, it's back and forth, and then the visitors, who were winless in their last three league matches, strike twice in quick succession. How will Kaiserslautern react to this double blow?
13'
Goooal! Magdeburg doubles their lead!
What's going on here? Just two minutes after taking the lead, the visitors strike again. It's none other than former Kaiserslautern player Hercher who scores. After a long ball from Marcus Mathisen, the right winger keeps his cool and slots it past Krahl into the left corner of the goal. Magdeburg have been incredibly efficient, scoring their second goal from just their second shot on target.

Goal! Loric puts FCM in front!
The visitors score the first goal of the match, Loric finds the net from 18 metres out!

Plenty of action in Lautern
The match remains intense and fast-paced in the Palatinate. The game is only interrupted occasionally due to minor fouls.
6'
Danger in Magdeburg's penalty area
After a lovely attack by the home side, Yokota gets the ball in the penalty area and goes down after a slight tug. The home team demands a penalty, but play continues. Referee Badstübner decides to let the game go on.

The hosts makes their presence felt
Both teams start with an open approach. A Kaiserslautern advance through Ache ends with a foul by Loric on the striker. However, the subsequent free-kick from the right side is too high and lands behind the goal line.
2'
First attempt for the visitors
Loric's cross lands with the goalkeeper Krahl, his punch then finds its way to Hercher, whose long-range shot from the right doesn't pose any problems for the home side's keeper.

Kick-off!
Three changes for Magdeburg
Coach Christian Titz makes three changes to his starting eleven compared to the 0-3 defeat against Hannover: Loric, Michel and Nollenberger come in for El Hankouri, Amaechi and Krempicki.
Five changes for Kaiserslautern
Manager Markus Anfang makes five changes to his starting lineup compared to the 1-2 DFB-Pokal defeat in Stuttgart: Aremu, Kaloc, Kleinhansl, Ronstadt and Hanslik come in for Redondo, Wekesser, Zimmer, Heuer and Ritter.
This is how Magdeburg lines up
Reimann (c) - Hugonet, Mathisen, Heber - Hercher, Gnaka, Michel, Loric - Nollenberger, Kaars, Burcu
This is how Kaiserslautern lines up
Krahl - Elvedi, Sirch, Tomiak - Ronstadt, Aremu, Kaloc, Kleinhansl - Yokota - Ache, Hanslik (c)
Titz's view on Kaiserslautern
"Kaiserslautern are a defensively compact team that is driven forward by their crowd. With Ache, they have a very dangerous target man up front."
Anfang's view on Magdeburg
"Magdeburg have been working with the same coach for a very long time. Therefore, they are well-rehearsed and flexible, and will be able to cope well with their personnel absences."
Few Lautern victories
Kaiserslautern have won only two out of 10 competitive matches against Magdeburg: the aforementioned 4-1 in the last home game and a 1-0 away win in May 2020 in the 3. Liga.
A thrilling encounter
The game in Kaiserslautern on 28 August 2022 was truly spectacularly, as the hosts twice squandered a lead, Magdeburg gave away a 3-1 advantage at one point, and it ended 4-4. Only one match in Magdeburg's second division history saw more goals (in the 6-4 home victory against Hertha last season).
Goals galore guaranteed
In the four second-division encounters between these two clubs, there have always been at least two goals scored, with a total of 20 goals and an impressive average of five per match.
Home banker?
The respective home team won 4-1 in both games between these sides last season. The in-form Daniel Hanslik scored the first two - his first Bundesliga 2 brace - in Kaiserslautern's victory.
