He usually scores those!
El Hankouri dribbles to the middle in front of the goal and then has a clear shot from about 15 metres out. However, his shot towards the left corner lacks precision, allowing Ernst to make the save.

It's getting rough out there
Due to the two yellow cards and many other small skirmishes in midfield, the match has become a bit disjointed. There's a lack of flow to the game now from both sides.
23'
Another yellow card
Müller comes in with a sliding tackle clearly too late against Scherhant. Scherhant had pushed the ball past him and was on his way towards the penalty area.

Scherhant!

12'
First good attack
Burcu finds left-back Loric on the wing, who whips in a dangerous cross in front of goal. Dárdai manages to clear.
9'
And we're off again - with a bang!
The first big chance of the match: Hertha quickly combines down the right flank. Scherhant finds himself in a shooting position on the right side of the penalty area, ten metres from goal, but his attempt is thwarted by Reimann.
6'
Pause in play
The referee has suspended the match because smoke is currently drifting across the pitch and impairing visibility.

Fiél on facing Magdeburg
"We are preparing for a very good, dominant and versatile opponent who always wants to have the ball. It's primarily about tackling; we need to engage in and win duels. We can't allow it to become an end-to-end game, because then it will be difficult for us."
Titz on facing Hertha
"With the change of coach before the season, Hertha have completely altered their style of play. They have a lot of pace in their ranks and often try to play in behind. I know they haven't picked up many points recently, but they are a team with quality."
Revenge in the return fixture
Hertha won the return game in Berlin 3-2, turning the match around after trailing 1-0.
Four times from behind
Hertha took the lead four times in the first meeting of 2023/24, but it was still Magdeburg celebrating in the end. Never before in German professional football had a team fallen behind four times and still emerged victorious. It's also the only time Magdeburg have scored six goals in a Bundesliga 2 fixture, while Hertha conceded more goals than ever before in a match at this level.
Flashback
These two sides met for the first time in a competitive fixture last season, with a total of 15 goals scored in the two encounters (Magdeburg won 6-4, Hertha won 3-2).
