Full-time: Fürth 2-1 Hertha

Hertha comes forward one last time, but Haslberger blows the final whistle! Ernst is not happy with the decision and sees yellow for dissent. Despite a late Berlin onslaught, Fürth held on in an intense match. After the sending off of Dietz, Hertha pushed for the equaliser, but Fürth fought until the end and managed to see out the narrow victory.

Futkeu!

Now Fürth are keeping the ball in their own ranks for a bit longer. Hrgota plays a great through ball to Massimo, who crosses from the left to Futkeu. Chance for Schuler

Luca Schuler also last started in Hertha's initial line-up on matchday seven, and has since only been used as a substitute six times.

Demme back in Hertha's starting lineup

The long-injured Diego Demme is in Hertha's starting lineup for the first time since matchday seven (1-4 home defeat against Elversberg). Most recently, in the DFB-Pokal match in Cologne, he was substituted on in the 29th minute for the injured Kevin Sessa.

It's snowing!

The home side come out - they're perhaps more excited about the match than the snow.

Three changes for Berlin

Hertha coach Cristian Fiél makes three changes to his starting lineup compared to the 1-2 defeat in the DFB-Pokal in Cologne: Demme, Schuler and Thorsteins play in place of Scherhant, Niederlechner (both on the bench) and Sessa (thigh problems).

Fürth make two changes

Cloverleaf manager Jan Siewert makes two changes to his starting lineup compared to the last match (1-1 draw in Ulm): Jung and Futkeu come in for Michalski and Mustapha (both on the bench).

And this is how Hertha lines up:

Ernst - Kenny, Leistner (c), Palkó Dárdai, Zeefuik - Klemens, Demme - Cuisance, Maza - Schuler, Thorsteinsson

The line-up for Fürth:

Noll - Dietz, Jung, Itter - Meyerhöfer, Bansé, Green, Gießelmann - Hrgota (c), Massimo - Futkeu

Jan Siewert's thoughts

"Hertha is a very strong team in possession and shows a lot of directness, especially in the final third. It's about us getting to the phase where we become calm with the ball. By that, I mean that we need to purposefully move towards the goal when in possession. We'll need that against Hertha."
camera-photo

Bitter exit from DFB Cup

In a thrilling round of 16 match, Hertha were knocked out of the DFB Cup by FC Köln. The Berlin side fought for a long time with a man down but conceded the decisive goal in the 120th minute in what was a 2-1 victory for Köln.

Christian Fiél's thoughts

"We can expect a lot of individual quality in Fürth. We mustn't let them play their game. There's a new manager there. They will probably focus on defending well. So we need to be patient. Our bodies might still be tired, but as soon as we step onto the pitch, we must be ready. There are no excuses."

Former Cloverleaf

Hertha forward Fabian Reese played for Fürth from early 2018 to mid-2019, making 44 appearances in the Bundesliga 2 and scoring 3 goals.

A top clash 100 years ago

Fürth celebrated their most important victories against Hertha in 1926 and 1929, when the Cloverleaves prevailed in the German Championship finals, securing the last two of their three league titles.

Hertha dominant

Hertha have won five of the last six competitive matches against Fürth, the exception in this period being the away match at Ronhof on 12 February 2022. On that occasion, the two teams met in the Bundesliga, with Fürth winning 2-1 thanks to a brace from Branimir Hrgota (Fürth's last Bundesliga victory).

Extremes for both sides

Last season, Hertha won both encounters (5-0 at home, 2-1 away) against Fürth. In 2023/24, Hertha had no better record against any other team, while Greuther Fürth had no worse record against any other team.
