Nuremberg starting XI:
Reichert - Jeltsch, Knoche, Karafiát - Villadsen, Jander, Danilo - Justvan, Castrop - Emreli, Tzimas
Elversberg starting XI:
Kristof - Baum, Pinckert, Rohr, Neubauer - Sickinger, Schmahl - Petkov, Damar, Zimmerschied - Asllani
Horst Steffen's thoughts
"There are many teams in the league that I feel belong in the top group. Nuremberg is one of them, so it's going to be another tough challenge that awaits us. But we're looking forward to it – we'll give it our all, switch off our minds, start running – and hopefully celebrate at the end."
Miroslav Klose's thoughts
"Elversberg are a very dangerous team and are very good in possession. They attack the opposition goal with many players and a lot of dynamism. That's something you have to defend against effectively."
Familiar face for Nuremberg
Manuel Feil moved from Nuremberg to Elversberg in 2018, although he only played for the club's second string.
Nuremberg assistant Pinola returns to Elversberg
Prior to last term, these teams had met just once previously, in the DFB Cup in October 2010. The Franconians, then playing three divisions higher than Elversberg (Nuremberg were in the Bundesliga, while Elversberg were playing in the Regionalliga), won 3-0. Now-Bochum boss Dieter Hecking was in charge of Der Club with the goals scored by Julian Schieber, Timmy Simons, and current Nuremberg assistant Javier Pinola - former Germany captain İlkay Gündoğan, meanwhile, sat on the bench for the full 90 minutes.
Nuremberg on top in 2023/24
Elversberg and Nürnberg played in the same league for the first time last season, with Der Club winning both matches (1-0 away, 3-0 at home).
