A bitter defeat for Hertha! After a strong first half saw the, take the lead through Scherhant, the hosts lost their way after Kyerewaa equalised. Another free kick

After a foul by Dárdai on Friðjónsson near the corner flag, Münster don't even try to cross the ball, but instead look to run down the clock.

GOOOOOAAALLL!!!!

Just when no-one thought it was going to happen, it happens! Lorenz takes the free kick at the centre circle and finds Friðjónsson, who rises highest at the edge of the penalty area and lays it off beautifully with his head to Paetow. He takes one touch at the corner of the six-yard box and then smashes it unstoppably past Ernst into the back of the net!

The first corner for the visitors!

Perhaps Münster can score from a corner. Lorenz delivers the ball from the left. But no. It's far too short and low. Hertha clear without any danger.
84'

No danger

Next set-piece for Cuisance. Thirty metres from goal, slightly to the left. Cuisance tries a chip, but the ball falls well short.
82'

Too many mistakes

Nothing is coming together for Hertha at the moment. Thorsteinsson sprints after an imprecise through-ball and just manages to reach it before it goes out near the corner flag... and then slips. Throw-in for Münster.
80'

Fresh impetus

Münster bring on fresh legs for the final phase. Perhaps there's still something to play for...
78'

Fruitless corners

Hertha lead 9-0 in corner kicks, but these set pieces have brought little if any danger.
75'

Little from Hertha

After the break, shots on goal have been dead-even at 2-2. Hertha have looked lacklustre since the equaliser, but Münster have also struggled to make much of an impact in attack.
73'

Play resumes

Schenk is back on his feet and seems able to continue for now!
72'

That would be a blow!

Schenk is on his back being treated by medical staff. Hopefully he can continue!

The super sub strikes!

Kyerewaa levelled the score by converting Preußen's first shot on goal in the second half.

Münster improving

Münster appear much fresher in the second half, especially after scoring their goal, while Hertha are struggling to maintain their game plan. The visitors are now much more aggressive than they were in the first half.

Close!

After a free kick from the half-space, Leistner attempts to clear with a header but plays the ball directly to Makridis' feet. The striker turns and shoots, only narrowly missing the target.

Scherhant invigorates Hertha's attack

Once again, it's Scherhant who's causing havoc in attack. After a dribble on the left, he's brought down near the byline. Cuisance delivers the free-kick into the six-yard box. Frenkert blocks the initial attempt before Demme blasts the second effort over the bar.
63'

Lull in play

Hertha still seem shocked by the equaliser. There's little happening offensively at the moment.
57'

The equaliser out of nowhere!

Fatal error from Klemens!! Looking to build up play calmly, Ernst fails to notice that Kyerewaa is lurking right behind him. The Münster player snatches the ball, finds himself one-on-one with Ernst and smashes the ball into the net!

Scherhant again and again

Hertha's best player so far in the match beats Makridis with a dribble on the right, cuts inside with a nice body feint and shoots from 20 metres out. Schenk easily catches the poorly placed shot.
54'

Hertha attack down the right

Cuisance crosses, but Koulis clears in front of Scherhant for a corner.
49'

Schenk again!

Cuisance chips a free-kick into the path of Niederlechner, who shoots from a tight angle on the right. However, Schenk drops smartly and gets his fingertips to it. Hertha have picked up right where they left off in the first half!
48'

Tactical

After a failed header by Bouchama, Prevljak was alone on his way towards the goal. Before he gets too close, however, Bouchama sticks out his arm and shuts down the attack. A deserved yellow card.
46'

We're back under way!

Both teams have made one substitution during the break. For Münster, Amenyido is brought on to provide more stability on the left flank, as ter Horst had been struggling with Scherhant. For Hertha, Maza has to come off due to injury. having already received treatment before the half-time break.

Half-time: Hertha 1-0 Preußen Münster

Hertha go into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead. The team looks particularly dangerous down the left flank, and Münster have had a lot to do defensively. A strong penalty from Scherhant gave them the lead, but Münster keeper Schenk prevented worse for his side with several saves. Münster have shown some promise but are crucially lacking precision in attack.

Schenk!!

Hertha continue to threaten down the left. Maza sends Scherhant on his way with a brilliant through-ball. One-on-one with Schenk, he takes a shot, but the Münster keeper just manages to get a foot to the ball. Maza picks up the rebound and shoots as well, but Schenk is already back on his feet and saves again! That could have been 2-0!
42'

Not sharp enough!

Bouchama tries his luck down the left flank, but has two Hertha defenders for company, so he turns away and attempts to set up Kyerewaa in the centre. However, the pass lands a good metre wide of his teammate and possession is back with Hertha.

Over the bar!

Niederlechner keeps his composure in the penalty area as he controls the ball, lifts his head and spots Maza, who is completely unmarked at the edge of the box. He picks out the pass but Maza blasts his effort well over the crossbar.

Now at the other end

Just moments ago, Bouchama nearly scored an own goal, but now he's causing danger in Hertha's penalty area. After some excellent combination play from the Eagles, the ball finds its way to the midfielder, lurking near the six-yard box. Bouchama takes a shot, but Dárdai manages to block it just in time!
22'

Nearly an own-goal!

Bouchama attempts to head a Hertha free-kick from the half-space clear with his head, but misjudges it and deflects the ball towards his own goal. Schenk has to stretch quite a bit to claw it out of the corner!
19'

No problem for Ernst

A promising set-piece situation for the visitors. Makridis curls the free-kick from the right half-space into the box and finds Frenkert. The centre-back manages to get his head to the ball, but doesn't manage to generate enough power.
15'

So close!

Cuisance delivers a dangerous corner from the left. At the near post, Leistner rises highest and gets the back of his head to the ball - but it goes just a few centimetres wide of the post. Best chance so far!
camera-photo

Good start!

Hertha have controlled the opening phase of the match, but haven't been able to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities yet.
10'

From distance!

Demme takes a crack from 25 metres out and his low shot whizzes past the left post. That was close!
9'

Good dribbling

Scherhant breaks down the left, tracked by ter Horst. The Berliner starts to sprint and ter Horst tries to get his body between the opponent and the ball, but Scherhant manages to assert himself and breaks into the penalty area. But his next touch is clumsy, the ball bounces slightly and Koulis clears it.
5'

Münster showing initiative

Frenkert starts a 40-metre run from his own half and lays it off to Makridis on the wing. He finds Németh in the centre. The striker makes a move to the right and shoots from 18 metres out, but Zeefuik manages to block the shot.
4'

After the 3-1 defeat to Magdeburg, there are three changes to Münster's starting lineup today: Bouchama, Hendrix and Paetow come in for Bazzoli, Preißinger and Grodowski (all on the bench).

Two changes for Hertha

Compared to the 1-2 defeat in Fürth, there are two changes in Hertha's starting eleven: Derry Scherhant and Florian Niederlechner start in place of Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson (on the bench) and Luca Schuler (not in the squad).

Hertha starting XI

Ernst - Kenny, Leistner, Dardai, Zeefuik - Klemens, Demme - Cuisance, Maza, Scherhant - Niederlechner

Cristian Fiél on facing Münster

"It doesn't matter if we're the favourites. We need to make it as difficult as possible for our opponents. Münster have individual quality and they defend well. But we are responsible for what happens here."

Sascha Hildmann on facing Hertha

"We're incredibly excited about Berlin, the stadium, and our fans. We want to be brave playing there and we want to put on a good show. We need to reward ourselves for the effort we keep putting in."

Shutouts

Hertha have always won at home to Münster, and in the process, the capital-city side haven't conceded a single goal (2-0, 6-0, 3-0 and 2-0 - the latter coming most recently in July 1989 in the Bundesliga 2).

Founding fathers

Both clubs were founding members of the Bundesliga. In the 1963/64 season, each team claimed home wins (2-0 to Hertha, 4-2 to Münster) – this 4-2 victory against the Berlin-based side on May 9 1964 remains Münster's last Bundesliga match to date.

A good omen

Hertha have won all of their last six matches against Münster. The last time they tasted defeat in this fixture was all the way back in March 1981, when Münster secured a 1-0 home victory.

Previous meeting

Saturday's fixture is Hertha and Münster's first competitive meeting since October 2021, when the then-Bundesliga side from Berlin won 3-1 in the second round of the DFB Cup against Münster, who were playing in the German fourth division at the time.
