Full-time: Paderborn 1-2 Greuther Fürth

Fürth snatch three points from Paderborn. Due to the red card for Riemann, Fürth had an easier time with an extra man. After Grimaldi's goal to pull one back, Paderborn really turned up the heat in the second half and came close to equalising, but Fürth ultimately managed to hold on to their narrow lead until the final whistle.

No penalty!

Grimaldi heads the ball down to Mehlem, who tries to control it in the penalty area and then goes to ground after contact from Quarshie. Despite vehement protests, referee Hempel waves play on. Shortly after, VAR confirms that Hempel assessed the situation correctly.

The big chance for 2-2!

Now Paderborn are turning it on! Bilbija dribbles into the penalty area and then has a chance to shoot with his strong right foot from about 14 metres out, but slightly miscues. As a result, the low shot isn't really dangerous and Noll saves without issue.

32'

Not his first sending-off

In the cup, Riemann saw a straight red card as a Bochum player in Mainz in December 2020. In the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, he had only been sent off once before, with a second yellow card (January 2020, as a Bochum player in Bielefeld).

Kick-off!

Fürth's newly formed defence

Jan Siewert makes four changes, all in the defence: Green is fit again, and winter signings John, Quarshie and Loosli are all new to the starting XI. For Quarshie and Loosli, it's their debut in a Fürth shirt. Room for the new boys comes courtesy of Müller (suspended due to red card), Jung, Gießelmann and Massimo.

Unlucky Platte

Last week, Platte scored the winning goal in Darmstadt, finally finding the net again - only to be substituted shortly after due to injury. He's absent today, with Engelns stepping in to make his first appearance in the second half of the season in his place.

Fresh defensive forces

Musliu and Brackelmann move into the Paderborn back line, replacing Obermair and the suspended Götze. For Brackelmann, it's a first appearance since the winter break.

Michel gets the armband

Paderborn captain Obermair, who has only missed eleven minutes this season, is on the bench today for the first time since August 2023. Michel takes over the captain's armband, leading SCP onto the pitch for the first time in nearly four years (last time in April 2021).

Fürth's starting XI

Noll - Loosli, Quarshie, Itter - Meyerhöfer, Green, Münz, John - Klaus, Srbeny, Hrgota

Lukas Kwasniok on facing Fürth

"Fürth are a bit of a mixed bag. The focus is on us: we want to keep the opponent busy and impose our own game."

Jan Siewert on facing Paderborn

"Paderborn are a very ambitious opponent. They are a team that play very physically and are very versatile in their build-up play. This week, we have also focused a lot on duels, because in our situation, it's crucial to win individual battles. It's all about the collective effort."

Three new signings for the Cloverleaves

Greuther Fürth have signed centre-back Joshua Quarshie on loan from TSG Hoffenheim after his previous loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf was terminated. Additionally, centre-back Noah Loosli from Bochum and striker Jannik Mause from Lautern have also joined the Cloverleaves on loan deals.

Hrgota in focus

Branimir Hrgota was involved in seven goals in his seven second division matches against Paderborn, scoring five times himself – that's more than against any other team in the Bundesliga 2.

Paderborn's record victory

One of the only two Paderborn successes in these last 19 encounters was indeed historic: Paderborn won 6-0 against the Cloverleaves exactly six years ago (2 February 2019), which remains Paderborn's record victory in the Bundesliga 2 and Fürth's heaviest defeat in 1,213 second division matches.

Strong record for the visitors

Greuther Fürth have lost only two of their last 19 competitive matches against Paderborn (eleven wins, six draws).
