Bundesliga 2, Matchday 13 highlights: Schalke and Hamburg share the spoils, Paderborn go top
Trailing by two goals at half-time, Schalke turned things around after the break to earn a point against Hamburg at the Volksparkstadion, while Paderborn went top, followed closely by Karlsruhe and Elversberg after Hannover and Fortuna Düsseldorf both lost.

Hamburg 2-2 Schalke
Goals: 1-0 Richter 29’, 2-0 Königsdörffer 30’, 2-1 Younes 57’, 2-2 Karaman 74’
It was a game of two halves at the Volksparkstadion. The home side were on top in the first half, where Marco Richter blasted a free-kick into the top-right corner, then Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer capitalised on a sloppy backpass from Ron Schallenberg, rounding the ‘keeper to double Hamburg's lead with their second goal in as many minutes. However, Schalke got back into it after the break. Amin Younes pounced on a lapse in concentration by the hosts, scoring his first of the season to halve the arrears just before the 60-minute mark. Captain Kenan Karaman then drew his side level as he got in between two HSV defenders to turn home a low cross from close range. In the end, the spoils were shared, as Schalke extended their unbeaten run to three games, meanwhile Hamburg haven’t won in four Bundesliga 2 matches and soon dismissed head coach Steffen Baumgart.
Paderborn 3-2 Nuremberg
Goals: 1-0 Grimaldi 6’, 1-1 Soares 8’, 1-2 Tzimas 51’, 2-2 Obermair 55’ (pen.), 3-2 Brackelmann 90’+6
Red card: Grimaldi 78'
Ten-man Paderborn scored from the last action of the game to take all three points against Nuremberg and go top of the league. Both halves started in similar fashion, with a goal for each side in quick succession. Adriano Grimaldi gave the hosts the lead from close range before Danilo Soares punished some sloppy Paderborn play at the back to make it 1-1. The roles were reversed after the break, as Nuremberg scored first thanks to a delightful chip from Stefanos Tzimas. Just four minutes and one VAR check later, Raphael Obermair got the home side level from the penalty spot. Goalscorer Grimaldi was later given his marching orders, as Miroslav Klose's side, now playing against 10 men, threw everything forward in search of a winner. In fact, the winning goal would come from a Paderborn corner, as Calvin Brackelmann headed home in the last seconds of the game to secure victory for the hosts.

Preußen Münster 0-1 Cologne
Goals: 0-1 Lemperle 51'
Münster hosted an in-form Cologne side and looked like they had their number with a commanding first-half display in which the newly promoted side dominated the ball and held their opponents at bay. Despite Joshua Mees' best efforts, away goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe had little work to do, and eventually Cologne's quality shone through with Tim Lemperle's header to start the second-half. Cologne jump up to fifth with a third-straight win and things are looking bright once again for Gerhard Struber's side.
Hertha Berlin 2-2 Ulm
Goals: 1-0 Maza (6’), 1-1 Telalović (38’), 2-1 Scherhant (52‘), 2-2 Krattenmacher (59‘)
Hosts Hertha opened the scoring after just six minutes played, with Ibrahim Maza scoring the with the very first shot on target for either side. The Berliners dominated for large portions of the first half, but a predator’s finish from Semir Telalović levelled the scoring for Ulm late in the first half. Hertha started the second half much like they did the first: quickly. Derry Scherhant pounced on a deflected Maza shot to restore the hosts' lead and to get his third of the season, but it wasn’t long before Ulm equalised once again through a composed finish by super-sub Maurice Krattenmacher. The hosts thought they’d won it late with Michaël Cuisance getting on the end of a cross to prod home, but a foul in the build-up is spotted by the VAR and the points ended up being shared.
Hannover 1-2 Darmstadt
Goals: 0-1 Förster 62', 1-1 Lee 68', 1-2 Nürnberger 72'
Hannover suffered their first home defeat of the season as Darmstadt secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory at the Heinz von Heiden-Arena. After a goalless but lively first half, Philipp Förster broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute for the visitors. Hyunju Lee leveled the score for Hannover just six minutes later, but Fabian Nürnberger's 72nd-minute strike sealed the win for Darmstadt. The Lilies continued their upward trajectory under coach Florian Kohfeldt, leaving Hannover to rue missed opportunities in an otherwise spirited contest.
Fortuna Düsseldorf 0-2 Elversberg
Goals: 0-1 Asllani (58’), 0-2 Petkov (65‘)
In-form Elversberg travelled to Düsseldorf to face Daniel Thioune’s promotion-hopeful side who were without a win in three. A lively affair from outset, the hosts started the game the better side, before Elversberg grew into it after 20 minutes. Fisnik Asllani came the closest in the first half, his shot hitting the crossbar. It certainly didn’t slow up after the interval, with Asllani this time opening the scoring after pouncing on a loose ball. Fortuna thought they’d equalised in the 61st minute, but a VAR review ruled it out for offside. Elversberg then doubled their advantage less than 10 minutes later through Lukas Petkov, who had come on at half time to provide a goal and an assist. Despite chances late on, Fortuna couldn’t find a way back into the match.
Greuther Fürth 2-3 Karlsruhe
Goals: 1-0 Hrgota 20', 1-1 Zivzivadze 46', 1-2 Conté 73', 1-3 Schleusener 79', 2-3 Bansé 83'
Karlsruhe staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Greuther Fürth 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. Fürth took a deserved 1-0 lead into half-time after Branimir Hrgota’s composed finish from a well-executed move. The second half saw Karlsruhe flip the script as Budu Zivzivadze and Bambasé Conté struck in quick succession to make it 2-1. Fabian Schleusener extended the lead to 3-1, but Fürth showed resilience, narrowing the gap with Sacha Bansé’s goal. Despite a spirited late push, Fürth couldn't find an equaliser, as Karlsruhe’s clinical finishing secured all three points and took them up to second.
Kaiserslautern 3-2 Eintracht Braunschweig
Goals: 1-0 Kaloc 17’, 2-0 Ache 41’, 2-1 Philippe 45’ (pen.), 3-1 Hanslik 45’+2, 3-2 Philippe 90’+6
Kaiserslautern returned to winning ways as they beat Braunschweig at home. Filip Kaloc's cool left-footed finish set the hosts on course for victory, and Ragnar Ache doubled his side’s advantage when he turned home a cross from close range. Rayan Philippe thought he had brought his side back into the game from the penalty spot, but it would be Daniel Hanslik who would have the final say in the first half, cutting inside and firing across goal and into the bottom corner just before the break. The home side controlled large parts of the second half, and despite Philippe capitalising on Julian Krahl's error to make it a one-goal game in added time, Markus Anfang's side saw it out to rise to ninth in the table, meanwhile Braunschweig are just one point clear of the danger zone in 15th.
Jahn Regensburg 0-1 Magdeburg
Goals: 0-1 El Hankouri 10'
Magdeburg got a first win in six thanks to a solid 1-0 victory away at Regensburg, who were on the backfoot for much of the affair. Mo El Hankouri's early effort in the 10th minute, a genius flick at the near post, beat Felix Gebhardt to open the scoring. That goal set the tone in terms of the control for the rest of the game as Magdeburg bossed possession of the ball. The home side only really started getting into the action towards the end of the half, and Bryan Hein had the best chance to equalise, however he shot wide of the post from five meters out. Regensburg grew stronger after the hour mark but they failed to fashion clear-cut opportunities. Christian Viet was given a Regensburg lifeline late on in the game, but a poor penalty from him was saved by Dominik Reimann in the Magdeburg goal. The result moves them to sixth in the league standings, level on points with Cologne.
