BVB in dreamland

Malen has his second of the game and it's a peach. The hosts regain possession and Adeyemi battles though before finding Malen on the right. The Dutch forward fires superbly towards the far post before wheeling away in celebration. This one's done.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
If there is to be another goal in this contest, it looks more likely to be a Dortmund fourth at this point.

Teams out

Both sets of teams have taken to the pitch and are waving to the stands. We're all set for the off.

That famous footballing anthem is echoing around a rainy Signal Iduna Park. We await the teams.
camera-photo

Yellow Wall

The famous Yellow Wall is already full to the brim as we get closer to kick off. We have even seen one local fan holding up a bendy Meisterschale. Hopes are clearly running high here. Dortmund expects.

Eintracht under threat?

Are we to expect a BVB onslaught against an Eintracht side with an injury crisis? There's no Kristijan Jakic, Evan Ndicka, Philipp Max or Hrvoje Smolcic for the Eagles this evening but the visitors do boast the deadly threat of forward Randal Kolo Muani, he of the division-leading 23 goal involvements this term.

Title up for grabs

All the pre-match words are being revisited now after what happened in Mainz earlier. Here is what BVB coach Edin Terzic had to say in the build up to this one. "We said before the season that we wanted to compete for titles. We still have the chance to play for a title now and that's the German Championship. The gap stands at two points, there are still six games remaining – of which four are taking place at home."

Pressure increases

What a chance BVB have been presented with here. The hosts know that after rivals Bayern Munich's surprise loss against Mainz earlier, the Black-and-Yellows can go top of the standings with a win. Expect the noise levels to increase even further ahead of kick-off at the Signal Iduna Park.

Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner opts for three changes today compared to the side that started last weekend's 1-1 draw against Gladbach. Dina Ebimbe, Götze and Knauff are all in while Borre and Kamada drop to the bench. Jakic misses out through injury.

Glasner: "About time we got a win again!"

Frankfurt may only have won one of their last 10 games in all competitions - their DFB Cup quarter-final clash with Union Berlin - but coach Oliver Glasner is still bullish about their chances of causing an upset tonight. "Dortmund are a very good team who kicked off 2023 with an incredible run, but their performances have been more up and down recently," he said. "They've got a lot of quality and are strong at home, but despite all that, it's about time we got a win again!"

Home sweet home

Dortmund play four of their six remaining Bundesliga fixtures - including today's clash with Frankfurt - at their Signal Iduna Park. BVB have the best home record this season with 34 points from a possible 39 (W11, D1, L1), and coach Edin Terzic declared this week that his side have "produced some very successful football" in front of their fans.

Best in the Rückrunde

Dortmund have been the top performers so far in the second half of the Bundesliga season, known as the 'Rückrunde' (the first half is the 'Hinrunde'). They have picked up 26 points since Matchday 18, which has kept them right in contention for a sixth Bundesliga title.

Watch: Mario Götze: Back Where It All Began

Frankfurt’s visit to Dortmund also marks a return to his sporting roots for Mario Götze. It was here that Germany’s 2014 World Cup final hero rose so spectacularly, and precociously, to fame, turning opposition defences inside-out as the Black-and-Yellows won back-to-back league titles in 2011 and 2012. Now, Götze is the veteran creative string-puller seeking to help Frankfurt into Europe again, with the next stop along the way at his old stomping ground.

Watch: Stuttgart 3-3 Dortmund

Watch: Frankfurt 1-1 Gladbach - highlights

Randal Kolo Muani's 13th Bundesliga goal of the season rescued Frankfurt a point against Gladbach, but it's now seven Bundesliga matches without a win for this season's DFB Cup semi-finalists.

The race is on!

Dortmund missed the chance to go level on points with leaders Bayern last weekend. Depending on how the defending champions fare in Mainz earlier on Saturday, BVB could be as many as five points off the pace come kick-off. Frankfurt, meanwhile, could really use a win to reignite their push for a top-six finish.
