Baumgart: 'We want to win'

Cologne could climb a place to ninth with a win, but a second successive European qualifcation is a bridge too far. Baumgart has nevertheless promised a typical Cologne display. "We will try to play our way and we want to win," he said at his pre-match press conference.

Bayern have been here before

Bayern famously clinched the 2000/01 title, courtesy of a last-gasp draw over Hamburg, Patrik Andersson scoring four minutes into added time to deny Schalke, who were already celebrating a maiden Bundesliga crown when the goal went in. Today, however, the record champions HAVE TO WIN and hope BVB slip up at home to Mainz.

A glorious day to settle the title race

Bright blue skies and highs of 24C in Cologne today. Temperatures will rise further still, once the goals start going in...

Set the alarms

As we begin to settle in for a day high on drama, it's worth doing a little housekeeping. Team news will drop at approximately 2.30pm CEST, an hour prior to our 3.30pm kick-off. We'll be here to take you through all the action as we see how the chips fall and, if you're in the Bundesliga App, you can click the little alarm bell to turn on notifications and not miss a kick of any of today's games.

Out of their hands

With Bayern relying on Dortmund to slip up at home to Mainz, look out for the classic final-day sight of supporters glued to the radio in the away end although that tradition may well make way for social media updates these days. Either way, the visiting fans will have their eyes and ears pointing towards Dortmund as well today. As for their players, they have to win and hope their title-rivals slip up.

Coach’s view: Bayern

Thomas Tuchel: “Unfortunately we don’t need to bother looking at what’s happening elsewhere. It’s absolutely clear to us that we have to win and then see. Anything can happen in any game. It just takes one lapse in concentration. It’s our obligation to give everything till the end […] regardless of what’s happening elsewhere.”
camera-photo

Coach’s view: Cologne

Steffen Baumgart: "I'm going into the game with a great deal of respect for Bayern. If you need to give anybody extra motivation when playing against Bayern then they're in the wrong job. We're very glad that we're already safe from relegation. We'll try to play our style of football. We want to win, as always, but we're aware of what to expect and we're looking forward to it."

Watch: Attacking analysis of the top two

Two title-chasing teams in search of a final matchday win – which, of course, can only be achieved by scoring goals. Ahead of the deciding shootout on the last weekend of the season, we can analyse the contenders’ comparative attacking strengths on current form.
camera-photo

Cologne: personnel

Striker Steffan Tigges has been ruled out with a shoulder problem, but Davie Selke (pictured) should be fine to start again, having begun on the bench last weekend following a head injury. Selke has four goals from his past four starts. Steffen Baumgart has no fresh injury concerns otherwise for the final day as the club bids farewell to longstanding heroes Jonas Hector and Timo Horn. The latter will only come on if the title appears decided, otherwise Marvin Schwäbe will continue in goal.

Cologne: form

Cologne have lost just one of their past eight Bundesliga matches as they see out the season in fine form.
camera-photo

Bayern: personnel

There were no fresh injury concerns for Thomas Tuchel, who is set to welcome back Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting after his knee issue. Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez and Alphonso Davies have all resumed partial training but won't be in action again till the new season. Serge Gnabry (pictured) is a more than decent option to spearhead the attack again after an impressive five goals from his past four games.

Bayern: form

It was all going so well. Three wins in a row had brought Bayern back to the top of the Bundesliga, but then came the 1-3 defeat to Leipzig last weekend. Three times since February, Bayern have managed three-match unbeaten spells before losing the next match.

Cologne: probable XI

Schwäbe - Schmitz, Hübers, Chabot, Hector (c) - Skhiri, Martel - Ljubicic, Kainz, Maina - Selke

Cologne: out

Adamyan (foot), Dietz (cruciate ligament), Tigges (shoulder), Uth (pelvis)

Bayern: probable XI

Sommer – Mazraoui, Pavard, de Ligt, Cancelo – Kimmich - Coman, Müller (c), Musiala, Sane - Gnabry

Bayern: out

Davies (thigh), Hernandez (knee), Neuer (broken leg)

Watch: Bayern Munich 1-3 RB Leipzig – highlights

Bayern conceded three second-half goals at the Allianz Arena to lose their unbeaten home record and relinquish first place to Dortmund going into the final day.

Gnabry to set new PB?

Bayern top scorer Serge Gnabry has struck in each of the last four games to equal his personal best in a Bundesliga campaign of 14 goals. He’s netted 11 times in 10 Bundesliga meetings with Cologne.

No longer assured in front

Bayern have dropped points from winning positions eight times this season (five draws, three losses), meaning they have thrown away 19 potential points. It’s their worst record for some 30 years.

Win is a must

Bayern simply have to win here to have a chance of overtaking Dortmund to claim the title. They’ve snatched first place on the final day twice before, leapfrogging Werder Bremen in 1985/86 and Bayer Leverkusen in 1999/2000.

Bavarian Carnival in Cologne

Bayern have won each of their last eight Bundesliga visits to Cologne and are unbeaten in 17 league fixtures against the Billy Goats (15 wins, two draws).

Double dose of Davie?

Davie Selke has already scored against Bayern this season, doing so from the spot for Hertha Berlin on Matchday 13. He could become the first player ever to score against Bayern for two different clubs in a single Bundesliga campaign.

Horn also leaving

Goalkeeper Timo Horn is also leaving Effzeh after 21 years on the books. Coach Steffen Baumgart has said he would like to play him in the final home game, but only if that doesn’t jeopardise the title race.

Hector bows out

Cologne captain Jonas Hector turns 33 on the day of the game and will play his final match for the club before retiring.
