Full-time: Augsburg 0-0 Hoffenheim

More of the same in the second half here. Hoffenheim grew into the second half and saw more of the ball, but Augsburg still had the better of the chances. Baumann rescued Hoffenheim a couple of times but both teams lacked that quality in the final pass and finish today. A deserved 0-0 draw.

Augsburg with the better chances

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
The xG indicates that Augsburg probably should have scored. But they have been somewhat wasteful in front of goal and Baumann has been in fine form.

Corner for Augsburg

Onyeka's cross is deflected behind for a corner. Wolf takes, Jakić wins it but it goes behind for another corner. Wolf takes again but Akpoguma clears this time.
80'

Baumann to the rescue

Mounié has a shot from the edge of the box, which takes a deflection on its way through. Baumann gets down very well to his left to make the save. Shortly after, Mounié goes through again and this time Baumann has to make a double save, with Kömür following up Mounié's rebound! It goes behind for a corner, and Augsburg win the header but Baumann claims it again.
78'

Another double change

One defensive change from Hoffenheim as Drexler comes in for Stach. Midweek goalscorer Gendrey also replaces Kadeřábek.

Both teams battling

The ball is still continually getting congested in the midfield. Neither side have yet found that bit of quality in their final ball and it's still all-square here.
73'

Jurásek across the face of goal

Hoffenheim have four men breaking. Bischof plays it out to Jurásek, who hits a powerful low cross towards the back post, but nobody gambles to run to the back post and can't get on the end of it. It goes behind for a goal-kick and another chance goes begging.
72'

Giannoulis booked

Professional foul from the left-back there. Hoffenheim look to break but Giannoulis puts a stop to that by holding on to Hložek, picking up a yellow card in the process.
71'

Giannoulis nearly finds Essende

The left-back drives up the pitch, combining well with Kömür. He attempts a low cross to the back post into Essende, but Hoffenheim intercept well.
69'

Kramarić slices it

Jurásek crosses into him from the left, but Kramarić doesn't connect well with the ball and doesn't really get a shot away.
68'

Stach overlaps

The defender charges forward and has a chance to cross, but it doesn't beat the first man.
67'

Double change for the hosts

Tietz makes way for Essende and Kömür comes in for Maier. Will their fresh legs be the difference in the final quarter of this match?
66'

Substitution

65'

Hložek tripped

The forward is tripped by the Augsburg captain on the edge of the box. Bischof takes, curling it with his left foot, but it's overhit and Labrović claims it comfortably.
64'

More even

Hoffenheim have seen much more of the ball in this second half than they did in the first.

Over from Jurásek

Kramarić switches the ball to Bischof, whose touch lets him down, but the ball falls to Jurásek. His right-footed curled effort from outside the box is well over.
61'

Double change for Hoffenheim

Tabaković and Hložek come in for Bülter and Tohumcu. Can the substitutes spark this game back into life?
60'

Good chance for Maier

Giannoulis gets down the left before cutting it back to Maier in the box. He gets curled effort away but Hoffenheim manage to block it.
53'

More of the same

The tale of the first half was that of both sides trying too hard to counter-attack too quickly, and instantly giving the ball back to the opposition. This second half, so far, has been characterised much the same, although Hoffenheim are pressing more, rather than sitting off.
52'

Corner for Hoffenheim

This time Kramarić is on the right for TSG. He whips a low cross in but it's blocked behind for a corner. Bischof takes short to Grillitsch, but Hoffenheim waste the opportunity again.
50'

Over from Bischof

Kramarić finds himself in a pocket of space on the edge of the Augsburg box. He lays it off the to the on-rushing Bischof, but his powerful shot is blazed over the bar. Hoffenheim have played a little more on the front foot at the start of this half.
46'

Back underway

Augsburg get the ball rolling again for this second half. Neither side has made any changes at half-time.

Half-time: Augsburg 0-0 Hoffenheim

A tentative first half that has come and gone without many clear chances. Neither side has wanted to take too many risks or commit too many men forward, as both have shown that they can counter-attack quickly. Claude-Maurice has looked the danger man for Augsburg so far, creating plenty and getting a few shots away. Both teams' strikers have just been a little isolated so far and so Matarazzo and Thorup will likely hope to change their approaches after half-time.

Onyeka combining with Wolf

The two Augsburg players link-up nicely before Wolf's attempted cross is blocked behind for a corner. Maier takes towards Tietz, who wins the header around the penalty spot, but it flies over the bar.
39'

Narrowly wide from Tohumcu

The young midfielder finds himself in space on the edge of the box and lashes a shot towards the bottom left corner. He narrowly drags it wide of the post but he wasn't far away.

Augsburg dominating the ball

Today has been a rare case of the hosts dominating the possession this season.

Struggling to break the deadlock

The hosts have probably been the better side here, but both teams have found it difficult to carve chances out in the first half an hour.
34'

Hoffenheim corner

Bischof takes, aiming towards the front post where Marius Wolf is ready and waiting to head it clear.
33'

Schlotterbeck climbs highest

Another good chance for Augsburg. Their centre-back meets the header around the penalty spot, but it takes a deflection on it's way towards goal. Gouweleeuw tries to follow up the rebound but he can't get there in time and puts it behind for a goal-kick.
31'

Onyeka across the face of goal

This time Tietz does find Onyeka, whose low whipped cross is fired across the face of goal but there are no takers for Augsburg. It takes a deflection on its way through and goes behind for a corner.
30'

Tietz can't find Onyeka

Some lovely footwork gives Tietz some space in the middle of the park. He tries to play Onyeka through but Jurásek defends well and sees it out for a goal-kick.

Great effort from Claude-Maurice

Once again, the Augsburg danger man lets fly. This time from far outside the box. His effort is swerving all over the place and Baumann just manages to tip it over the bar. The subsequent corner is cleared but only as far as Giannoulis, who works it back to Claude-Maurice. The striker shoots again, but this time it's wildly struck and over the bar.
26'

Augsburg looking dangerous

Twice in the last two minutes Claude-Maurice and Tietz have found their way into the Hoffenheim box, and have had opportunities narrowly blocked. Augsburg will feel they have a goal coming...
24'

Wasted opportunity

The visitors have a man advantage on the counter-attack. Bülter drives into the box and has Kramarić overlapping on his right, but his pass forces his captain too far wide and he can't get the shot away. What a waste for Hoffenheim!
23'

Tietz from distance

The striker takes a snap-shot from outside the box. He strikes it well and it's swerving in the air, but it swerves wide of the goal.

Good play from the hosts

A more measured approach from Augsburg here. They keep possession on the edge of the box before Onyeka crosses into Tietz. The striker heads it down to Maier, who shoots from the edge of the box, but it's deflected over the bar. Augsburg can't make anything of the corner.
18'

Hoffenheim break

The visitors immediately counter-attack and work it out wide to Jurásek, but he overhits his cross and it goes behind for a goal-kick.
17'

Claude-Maurice's shot blocked

Onyeka wins the ball high up the pitch and works it to Claude-Maurice. He gets a shot off just inside the box, but it's blocked again.
15'

Kramarić finds Bülter

A chipped through ball from the Hoffenheim captain off the left finds Bülter in behind, who can't get his shot away before an Augsburg defender comes across to block it and send it behind for a corner. Nothing comes of the corner for Hoffenheim, however.
11'

Bülter screams for handball

Grillitsch whips a deep cross into Bülter, who heads back across goal. His header strikes the arm of Matsima and he screams for a penalty, but a corner was given. The VAR has cleared it, and nothing came of the corner.
9'

Maier takes again

It's an outswinger towards the penalty spot, but Kadeřábek clears well.
7'

Free-kick in a good position

Claude-Maurice draws a foul from around 30 yards from the Hoffenheim goal. Maier goals for goal from distance but he fires it straight into the wall. The ball is then worked back in and Augsburg win a corner, their first of the game.
4'

Claude-Maurice can't find Onyeka

The forward has his first opportunity to create and tries to thread Onyeka through, but Hoffenheim intercept the pass.
1'

Kadeřábek already booked

Hoffenheim take the kick-off before launching a long ball up the pitch. Kadeřábek challenges Giannoulis overly aggressively and picks up the first yellow card of the game inside 60 seconds.

And we're off!

The visitors get the ball rolling here in Augsburg.

More on those teams

Pellegrino Matarazzo makes three changes to his Hoffenheim side that drew with Lyon midweek. Gendrey, Prass and Moerstedt drop to the bench, and in their stead come Jurásek, Kaderabek and Bülter. Thorup makes just the one change to his Augsburg team that drew 1-1 to Wolfsburg last time out. Rexhbeçaj serves a suspension for too many yellow cards and so Maier comes into the side.

Augsburg's man of the moment

Summer signing Alexis Claude-Maurice has been grabbing the headlines from an FCA perspective in recent weeks. His most notable performance of late was his brace in a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, but he has also netted against Gladbach and assisted vs. Freiburg. He may not have grabbed a goal involvement last time out against Wolfsburg, but this game did follow a midweek cup fixture against Schalke in which he also scored. After a full week of training, the Frenchman will be raring to go for Jess Thorup's side once again.

Late drama for Hoffenheim on Thursday

TSG played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with French side Lyon in their latest Europa League match. After Alexandre Lacazette thought he'd won it for his team in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, 20-year-old Umut Tohumcu hit back with an equaliser two minutes later to earn a point for Hoffenheim. Pellegrino Matarazzo's side will therefore be looking to carry the momentum a last-minute equaliser brings into today's fixture.

Pellegrino Matarazzo on Augsburg

"They're a very unpleasant opponent. They go forward very quickly and are capable of playing high. We will need an energetic performance in order to take points on Sunday."
camera-photo

Jess Thorup on Hoffenheim

"For me, Hoffenheim is a strong opponent that plays very good football. We have improved defensively in the past few games, but we need more possession and have to create more chances."
