Full-time: Augsburg 2-1 Heidenheim

Schlotterbeck's header wins all three point with the last action of the match. Heidenheim were much more positive in the second half, equalising through their captain Mainka. Dahmen made plenty of other saves to deny the likes of Scienza and Conteh, and Busch struck the post late on. But the hosts held in there, and were rewarded for their resilience with a goal from substitute Schlotterbeck to secure Augsburg's third consecutive Bundesliga victory.

Schlotterbeck wins it at the death!

The substitute has won it! Kömür takes the corner from the left, curling it into the box. Schlotterbeck rises highest at the penalty spot, flicking a header past Müller, who stood there beaten. The Augsburg fans went absolutely mental after that went in.

Off the post!

A cross from Busch comes in from the right. It takes a huge deflection off Giannoulis and loops over Dahmen, who stood rooted to the spot. It strikes the inside of the post but bounces out and Augsburg manage to clear.

Gumny booked

The substitute receives the first yellow card of the game for a late challenge on Scienza.
87'

Scienza squanders it

A real chance opens up for Heidenheim. Scienza is steaming down the left flank and he has options in the middle. He chooses to shoot, but his low effort is too tame to trouble Dahmen. His teammates were screaming for the ball on the far side.

Tietz curls one

It's a speculative effort from in off the left flank. He curls it with his right but it's into the gloves of Müller.

Mainka celebrates

The captain's goal brought his side level. But can they find a winner here?
84'

Over by Onyeka

The ball comes in from the right and the Nigerian is waiting on the edge of the box. He hits it first time but it's well over.
82'

Conteh in behind

A ball over the top finds the speedster. He brings it down well, moves the ball from his right foot to his left and attempts a shot under pressure, but it's wide of the mark.
78'

Double substitution

Augsburg make another two changes immediately after conceding. Can they retake the lead?
76'

Mainka levels the scores!

Heidenheim's captain leads by example! A free-kick on the right comes in from deep for Heidenheim. The initial ball is headed clear, but only as far as Busch. Busch sends a frantic ball back in and Mainka manages to make contact, guiding the ball into the top-left corner from inside the box. All square again here!

Can Scienza and Busch find a solution for the visitors here?
74'

Woodwork!

A ball in from the left finds Gumny, whose sliding effort is deflected behind for a corner. Rexhbeçaj takes, finding Schlotterbeck, whose looping header takes Heidenheim by surprise as it rattles the crossbar. Müller didn't get a hand to that...

Both keepers make excellent saves to deny the opposition from scoring. First, Dahmen gets down well to his left to deny Conteh, before his side go up the other end and force an excellent save from Müller.

Tempers flare

Conteh looked to be through if not for good defending by Gouweleeuw. Afterwards, things get heated as the pair square-up to one another, but Dahmen and the referee diffuse the situation.

Stoppage

There is a brief pause in play as Rexhbeçaj, having been struck on the head by the ball from point-blank range. He receives treatment, but he's back on now.

Effort from Wanner

Space opens up for the substitute Conteh down the right. He gets to the byline and cuts it back to Wanner on the edge of the box, who shoots first time with his left. Heidenheim win a corner, but they can't make anything of it.

Substitution

59'

Krätzig shoots!

The youngster marauds up the pitch unchallenged for Heidenheim. He reaches the edge of the box and has options but opts to shoot, his powerful effort forcing Dahmen to get down well to his left to push it away.
57'

Corner from the right

Krätzig swings it in with his left. This time, Wolf heads it clear from the near post.
54'

Golden chance for Beck

Great move by Heidenheim! Kerber, Beck and Zivzivadze all combine down the right. Ultimately, Kerber plays Beck through on goal, but his effort is straight at Dahmen, who came rushing out to tighten the angle.
52'

Nice link-up

Augsburg attack quickly. Essende combines well with Gouweleeuw down the left. The latter attempts to cross back into the feet of the forward, but this time, Heidenheim clear.
49'

Corner for the hosts

Once again, Onyeka manages to drive into the box for Augsburg. He fakes his shot before losing the ball, but Claude-Maurice pounces on the loose ball, squeezing a shot away from a tight angle that is saved behind for a corner. Maier takes, but Heidenheim head it clear.

Half-time: Augsburg 1-0 Heidenheim

A very attritional half comes to an end. Chances were hard to come by as both sides were very compact at the back. Zivzivadze had the visitors' biggest chance, but sent it over the bar from close range, whilst Matsima got on the end of a goalmouth scramble right at the end of the half to poke home the opener for the hosts. If they can hold this, it'll be three wins on the bounce for the home side...

Corner to Heidenheim

Good stop

Despite not actually getting a shot off, this chance for Claude-Maurice was one of the biggest of the half thus far. Müller was very quick off his line to snuff out the danger.
38'

Corner for the hosts

Again, Maier plays an out-swinger from the right, but Heidenheim get it clear comfortably.
36'

Over from Zivzivadze

Heidenheim have a counter-attack. Beck plays it left to Föhrenbach, who crosses into Zivzivadze. The Georgian is unmarked at the penalty spot and connects with the volley but he sends it over the bar. That was a real chance!

Augsburg's number 10 has looked bright so far this half.
23'

Schöppner shoots

The midfielder picks the ball up on the left side of the edge of the Augsburg box. He moves it onto his right foot before shooting, but his low effort is too weak to trouble Dahmen and it's straight at him.
21'

Corner

Maier takes an out-swinger from the right. Banks leapt to connect with the header in the middle, but his effort was blocked.
20'

Overhit by Maier

Augsburg have a promising-looking free-kick from the right. Maier takes but it sails over everyone in the box. Rexhbeçaj recovers it and sends it back in, but Heidenheim clear.
18'

Through for Zivzivadze

The striker is sent through on goal, shoulder to shoulder with Matsima. The Augsburg defender does just enough to shield the ball and Dahmen comes off his line to clear.

Strong tackle

An attack for the hosts looks promising. Claude-Maurice picks it up on the edge of the box, seemingly gearing up for a shot, but he can't get it away due to a very physical but fair challenge on him from Mainka.

Good run by Claude-Maurice

The game suddenly opened up for Augsburg. Maier receives the ball in an advanced position before playing a teasing ball through the Heidenheim defence for Claude-Maurice to run onto. He would've had a one-on-one with the keeper, had Müller not been so quick off his line.
5'

In from the left

Krätzig combines well with Schöppner down the left, playing a one-two. Schöppner plays a low cross in, but again the hosts get it clear.

Frank Schmidt's view on facing Augsburg

"They've changed their system and are now more compact in their 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 with athletic players and high intensity. Last game they ran seven or eight kilometres more than Bremen. We can't compare them with the team we faced in the first half of the season. We've watched their recent games and know what to expect."
camera-photo

Jess Thorup's view on facing Heidenheim

"We lost 4-0 last time we met, but I'm not thinking about that. If we play to the best of our abilities, we can beat anyone. If we don't, then they will cause us problems, no matter where they are in the table."

Second season syndrome?

Heidenheim have already suffered as many league defeats after 18 matches as they did across their entire debut top-flight campaign (12).
