Full-time: Pauli 3-0 Union

Pauli secure their first home win of the season in style! Guilavogui doubled his tally after the break with a neat finish, and then some disciplined defensive work and a late Sinani goal put a seal on things. A tough day for Baumgart and Union, who were unable to create any golden chances and were frustrated by some solid defending.

Sinani's first Bundesliga goal rounds it off!

The substitute scores with virtually his first touch! Guilavogui backheels it to Sinani, who lets it come onto his left foot before firing it towards goal. It goes in via a deflection off Doekhi, but neither he nor Pauli will care, as it's 3-0!

Pauli not allowing Union anything

The Boys in Brown are working hard to protect their lead and clean sheet. Can Union conjure something up with their final attacking push?
84'

Nodded wide!

Bénes puts in a delicious cross from the corner, and Skarke rises to meet it. However, the connection isn't clean enough and the ball boucnes wide of the goal.
83'

Afolayan with a chance!

Pushed out slightly wider than he might have preferred by Juranović, Afolayan tries to clip it over Schwolow with a left-footed chip from a tight angle. He gets it over the keeper, but unfortunately for the substitute, he gets it over the frame of the goal as well.
81'

Leite nearly gets one back

The defender flicks the ball goalwards from the free kick, and Vasilj has to get down to low to his left to maintain the clean sheet.
78'

Good shift not gone unnoticed

Weißhaupt, who has run his socks off down the left wing today, is applauded by fans and staff as his number comes up and he is replaced by Afolayan.
77'

Another block frustrates Union

Vertessen is the latest player to be denied by a Pauli defender, who have defended bravely this afternoon, which is just as important as the goals at the other end of the pitch.
76'

Nearly a third

On a hat-trick, Guilavogui unselfishly squares it towards Weißhaupt who is in a better position in the centre of the box, but his effort is too tame and is easily collected by Schwolow.
camera-photo

The difference so far

Guilavogui's brace has Pauli on the brink of a first home win of the season, and the three points would see them overtake Union and climb into 13th place.
71'

Final roll of the dice

Steffen Baumgart makes his final changes as Skarke and Rothe replace Haberer and Skov.
71'

Substitution

70'

Proper connection lacking

The ball gets rolled back into Hollerbach from the right by-line, with the striker lurking near the penalty spot. He hits it first time, but the effort lacks power and is easily blocked by the resolute Pauli defence.
68'

Once, twice, eight times unlucky

Weißhaupt's misfortune is the eighth time Pauli have hit the woodwork this season.
67'

Off the post!

Treu does well to win the ball back high up the pitch. It comes to Weißhaupt, who has a go from the left side of the box. The shot takes a large deflection off Juranović, loops over Schwolow and then hits the bottom of the post before flying away. A let-off for Union, that!
65'

The wait goes on

Union are yet to score a second-half goal under new head coach Steffen Baumgart, making the task even less simple for the visitors.
64'

Tough nuts to crack

Only Bayern (16) have conceded fewer goals than The Boys In Brown (21) this season. Can the plethora of attacking talent brought on by Baumgart do anything to turn the tide?
60'

Double change for the visitors

Steffen Baumgart brings on some fresh legs in the form of Vertessen and Volland, who come on for Querfeld and Jordan. Are Union about to go to a four-back formation?
60'

Substitution

59'

Big chance for Hollerbach

After two Pauli defenders fail to meet the header, the ball bounces in behind to the Union striker who had gambled on that happening. He charges through towards goal, but skies his left-footed effort on the angle over the bar.
55'

First home victory in sight

Unless Union have anything to say about it, the home side are nearing ever closer to their first home win of the season. Will there be a big reaction from the Iron Ones?
51'

Suspension looms for Querfeld

The defender picks up a fifth yellow card, ruling him out of Union's next fixture against Leipzig.
51'

Second powered home!

Eggestein picks out Guilavogui with a square pass, who takes a touch before thundering the ball past Schwolow with a low drive. Pauli haven't scored many at home this season, but they're in the goals today!

Too eager

Substitute Bénes slides in aggressively to try and stop Wahl's clearance, but instead misses the ball and clatters into the defender, receiving a yellow card for his troubles.
49'

Jordan denied by monster block

The visitors capitalise after a sloppy Irvine pass in midfield, and Jordan is played through on goal. However, his shot is blocked by the sliding Wahl with some terrific defending!
48'

Pressure forces Vasilj to clear

Union are making their intentions clear at the start of the half as they press the hosts into their own penalty box. The Pauli 'keeper takes no chances and boots the ball off to the side for an Union throw.
46'

One change each at the break

Pauli have a lead to preserve (or potentially add to), whilst Union need to get themselves back into the game. All set for an exciting second half! Bénes has come on for Schäfer and Boukhalfa has replaced Ritzka at the interval.

Half-time: Pauli 1-0 Union

Guilavogui's clever finish currently makes the difference at the break. It took the home side a while to warm to the game, but they have been on top for the majority of the first half and take a deserved lead into the interval. Plenty of work to do from an Union perspective.

Stoppage time

43'

Impressive improvisation and nearly a second

Guilavogui slips over at the far post, but is still able to head the ball back across whilst sat on the floor. Eventually, it comes back out to the right of the penalty box, and Irvine clips a ball into the centre towards the unmarked Eggestein, who fails to get a clean contact on the ball. That was a good chance for the attacker!
41'

Almost had the freedom of the box

Pauli go for one off the training ground from the corner. The ball gets rolled flat towards the penalty spot, and Eggestein has all the room he could need to get a shot away, but this is blocked by an Union defender and ultimately cleared.
40'

Moving as one

Union are getting back in numbers whenever Pauli try to break. This meant they were able to shepherd first Guilavogui and then Saliakas wide, although they have conceded a corner in the process.
36'

Irvine getting closer

Still waiting for his first Bundesliga goal, the skipper breaks into the box to try and get on the end of Saliakas' cross, but Doekhi beats him to the ball and nods it behind for a corner.
35'

Schäfer into the book

A tactical foul on the breaking Weißhaupt results in a yellow card for the Union man.
34'

Great touch from Hollerbach

The Union striker fantastically controls a ball over the top, then muscles Ritzka off of him before trying to squeeze it in from the angle. Vasilj is equal to the effort - that was almost an instant reply from Union!
31'

Guilavogui roofs it!

Irvine supplies Guilavogui with a similar ball to the one the captain received a couple of minutes prior. The attacker runs through before firing the ball past Schwolow right in the very top of the net, and from a tight angle, too! Pauli had been growing into the game, and they now lead!

Irvine tests Schwolow

Eggestein picks out the overlapping Irvine with a cute pass down the right side of the penalty box, but the Australian's shot is at a comfortable height for the Union 'keeper, who parries it away from a corner, from which nothing comes.
27'

Set pieces the way in currently

Both of the sides' best chances have come from dead-ball scenarios. The latest corner falls to Pauli, and it gets nodded down into the path of Guilavogui, who can only divert the ball onto the bar from a few metres out. Glorious chance for the hosts!
25'

Wasted opportunity

Weißhaupt tries to clip it in behind the Union defensive line from a deep free-kick in a central position, but it goes above and beyond his teammates and out for a goal kick.
23'

Tense midfield battle

Both sides' middle men are working hard to try and establish dominance in the centre of the park, but neither midfield is letting the other off easy. This is resulting in a lot of long balls to try and bypass the midfield battle.
20'

Headed over!

Doekhi rises highest to meet Skov's out-swinging corner from the left, but his header lacks the necessary accuracy and goes over the bar.
18'

Easy pickings for Schwolow

After playing it short, a looping cross is put into the box, straight into the arms of Schwolow.
18'

First corner for Pauli

Weißhaupt sends in a free-kick delivery from the the left touchline, but it only finds an Union head and the ball gets flicked behind for a corner.
16'

Weißhaupt's effort blocked

Cutting in from the left on the edge of the box, the Pauli attacker didn't hesitate before curling it towards goal. However, the shot couldn't get past Haberer who was stood in front of the penalty spot.
13'

Plenty ball for the Iron Ones

Union's comfortable start is reflected in the possession stats. This may not bother the stable Pauli defence too much, however, as the capital city side haven't yet created any noteworthy chances themselves.

Hosts yet to settle in

The home side are still waiting to register their first shot of the game. They're struggling to get into their attacking flow at the moment.
10'

Heavy touch

Pauli captain and midfield general Irvine shows too much of it to Schäfer after failing to bring the ball under control, resulting in a foul and a free kick for the away side.
6'

First corner for Union

Skov's initial cross is cleared by the Pauli defence, and he then gets a second bite of the cherry, but the next delivery also comes to nothing,
5'

Up and over

Skov is unable to keep his direct free-kick effort down and the ball sails over the crossbar.
4'

Free kick to Union

Treu concedes a foul on the right-hand side and about 25 metres out from goal, this is a good chance for the visitors.
3'

Early Union possession

The visitors have seen more of the ball in the opening exchanges, but are yet to fashion any chances.
1'

Game on!

Hollerbach rolls it back from the centre circle as Union get the game underway.
Kick-off!

All set

The players are out on the pitch and the final game of Matchday 19 is about to kick off...

Time to compound the win?

Pauli have always lost twice in a row after registering their first three league wins of the season. Will it be fourth time lucky for the Boys in Brown?

Approaching an unwanted record

Union have lost their last five on the row in the Bundesliga, just one defeat short of their worst away run in the German top flight. They'll need to take something from the Millerntor to put an end to the away-day misery.

Alexander Blessin's view on Union Berlin

"I expect a high-intensity game that will demand everything of us. After the last game, Union Berlin will be feeling very confident. It's time we won a second game in a row. We want to draw level with them in the table by doing just that. That would be really great."
camera-photo

Steffen Baumgart's view on St. Pauli

"St. Pauli have found their feet in the Bundesliga and in Johannes Eggestein, they have someone who knows where the goal is. But they will be in the running for relegation until the end of the season and are therefore a direct rival for us."

Defensive foundation

Although looking nervously over their shoulders at the relegation zone, Pauli actually have the second best defence in the Bundesliga in so far this season. Only leaders Bayern Munich have conceded fewer goals than the Boys in Brown (24 to 21). The promoted outfit also rank second for clean sheets with six (behind Bayern and RB Leipzig - both on nine).
