Full-time: Union 0-0 Leipzig

The final whistle goes at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, as Union and Leipzig share the spoils. The home side had the better of the chances, but were unable to truly test Gulácsi. Meanwhile, Leipzig were denied a goal by the offside flag and were often a whisker away from turning home some dangerous crosses.

Off the line!

Gulácsi comes to clear a seemingly harmless ball, but spills it into the path of Jordan, who immediately stabs it goalless. Were it not for a goal-line clearance from Šeško, Union would have stolen it!

Story of the night

A scarcity of chances, and the ones that have been created have not been of a good quality. All the ingredients for a goalless draw, unfortunately.

Over again!

The ball rolls back to the edge of the Leipzig box once again, and this time Roussillon decides to have a go with his first touch. He suffers the same fate as Haberer did before him, as the effort flies over the bar.

Two goalless games looming for Leipzig

This would be the first time since the end of 2023 that Marco Rose's side fail to score in two consecutive games.
85'

Across the face

Kampl puts it right across the corridor of uncertainty, and it's too far from both the Union 'keeper and defence. But, unfortunately for Leipzig, nobody is there to tap the ball in from a few yards out.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
It's a low xGoals value from the visitors today, who really have struggled to create chances.

Ball in the net, flag in the air!

Nusa's silky run into the box causes problems for the Union defence. He is eventually tackled, but the ball falls straight to Šeško, who powers it in. However, the offside flag goes up against the Slovenian, and following a VAR check, the goal is officially chalked off.

Half-time: Union 0-0 Leipzig

Lots of physicality, few chances: the first half in Köpenick has been intensive, but neither side has been able to create a gilt-edged opportunity to open the scoring. That said, it's all to play for in the second half!

Stoppage time

60 seconds have been added on at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
45'

Brief interruption

Openda and Haberer collide with each other, and the referee waves on both medical teams.
44'

Clever flick from Skarke

The midfielder doesn't give up on the ball as it looks to be rolling out behind the by-line, and instead, plays it cleverly back into the danger area with the back of his heel. This forces Bitshiabu to intervene, as he gets in front of Prtajin and clears it behind for a corner, from which nothing comes.
42'

Neat turn and shot

Union launch a counter as Prtajin chases to get to the ball on the right touchline. He plays it into the centre quickly and finds Bénes, who controls it with his chest, and, with his back to goal, spins and tries to curl it past Gulácsi from the edge of the box. In the end, it's an easy save for the Hungarian.
41'

38'

A first touch away

Khedira slides a clever pass into Prtajin on the edge of the box, but due to a poor first contact, the ball gets away from the striker and rolls into the gloves of Gulácsi. That could have been a good chance for the home side!
38'

Leipzig dropping off

The visitors are happy for Union to have the ball at the back, not adopting their usual high-pressing tactics.
35'

Unlucky deflection comes to nothing

Prtajin's cross into the centre from the left side of the area is sharp, and Seiwald cannot gets his feet right whilst trying to clear it. The ball bounces off his standing foot and rolls towards his own goal. Gulácsi is able to get behind it, but that could have been dangerous for the visitors.
32'

First booking

Juranović is booked after a foul on Xavi.

Union's play is often associated with lots of aerial duels, but Leipzig too are following suit, opting to play several long balls in behind in search of their pacey attackers.
26'

Haberer has a go

The midfielder makes a late run forward, and so is in plenty of space just outside the box. The ball gets played to him, and he takes a touch before taking aim. On this occasion, he drags it wide.
24'

Next example of the physicality

Šeško shrugs off a defender before driving up the pitch, and just as he looks to play in a teammate, he receives a body check which is deemed fair by the referee, who says play on. This isn't a match for shrinking violets!
22'

A physical encounter

It's been an intense first half of the first half, with aerial duels in abundance and plenty of fierce challenges coming in.
19'

Straight at the 'keeper

Juranović tries his luck from distance, but the eventual shot is tame and rolls comfortably into the hands of Gulácsi.

Steffen Baumgart on facing Leipzig

"Leipzig have now got more and more players back who have been out for a long time and are getting into their rhythm. Nevertheless, it also starts at 0-0 on Saturday. We play at home and want to light the stadium on fire, but we know what to expect. They have very good individual players, we have to close down the spaces and take on the duels."

Marco Rose on facing Union

"I was hoping that we'd take a step forward in [the game against Graz]. We failed to do that once again. I expect us to try and get a good result on the board tomorrow, and then during the week work on adding some consistency to our results, performances and everything else. That's our number one aim."
