Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri joins Borussia Dortmund on loan

Borussia Dortmund have completed the loan signing of Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri, who will spend the 2026/27 season at Signal Iduna Park. BVB have bolstered their attack following the serious knee injury sustained by summer arrival Giannis Konstantelias on Matchday 1 against Hamburg.

Nwaneri's move to the Ruhr region is his second loan spell in as many seasons, as he spent six months at Marseille in 2025/26. While there, the England Under-21 international scored two goals in nine Ligue 1 appearances before returning to Arsenal in June.

Since then, he has featured for Arsenal in several pre-season friendlies, notably scoring against his new club in the Emirates Cup

"With the loan of Ethan, we have managed to acquire a very talented and technically gifted midfielder," said Dortmund's managing director for sport Lars Ricken. "Due to Giannis Konstantelias' extended absence, it was important for us to strengthen our squad again in the short term. For us, signing Ethan was the best possible sporting solution. We are delighted that we were able to complete this shortly before the end of the transfer window."

Nwaneri brings Premier League experience to Dortmund, having featured 34 times for Arsenal in the competition since his record-breaking debut as a 15-year-old against Brentford. He remains the North London club's youngest-ever player.

Nwaneri could make his Dortmund debut away at Hoffenheim on 5 September. The Black and Yellows have the chance to record back-to-back wins in Sinsheim after defeating Hamburg 2-0 on Matchday 1.
