Bayer Leverkusen release special 120th anniversary jersey
Bayer Leverkusen have gone back to where it all began with a retro black jersey closely resembling their first ever kit. The Bundesliga champions will wear the special 120th anniversary jersey at home to Holstein Kiel on Matchday 6.
The special kit has numerous additional features designed to illustrate Leverkusen's history. Their first ever club logo, from when they were known as Turn- und Spielverein der Farbenfabriken vorm. Friedrich Bayer & Co, is reproduced.
The red collar and golden buttons from the club's first kit on record from 1907/08 are also recreated on the black jerseys.
British kit supplier Castore's logo and the Barmenia sponsor logo are shown in subtle tone-on-tone colouring.
There is also an NFC chip built into the jersey below the logo on the chest. Anyone holding their smartphone over the logo can gain access to a page with exclusive content in the club's app.
The special jersey is available from Leverkusen's club shop for a price of €99.90 in adults' sizes and €64.90 in children's sizes.
Florian Wirtz and his Leverkusen team-mates will hope the jersey inspires them to a result at home to Holstein Kiel.
