Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena changing address to Franz Beckenbauer Platz
The city of Munich is changing the address of Bayern's iconic stadium in honour of club legend, Franz Beckenbauer. From January 2025, it will be located at Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5.
The home of record German champions Bayern is to have a new address from the first anniversary of Beckenbauer's death on 7 January 2025.
The number five was chosen in tribute to the shirt number worn by the legendary figure of the German game during his time at the club.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: "In future, we will play at Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5, which shows the bond between Franz and FC Bayern for all eternity. We would like to thank the City of Munich for not only paying tribute to Franz Beckenbauer's legacy, but also for agreeing to our proposal for the name. It's great that the Kaiser now has a permanent place in Munich. Just like our fans sing at every game: No one can keep good friends apart.”

Beckenbauer's widow Heidi added: “Our whole family is delighted that Franz's memory is being honoured in this special way. Franz was a son of Munich, he was always proud of his home. FC Bayern is the club where he felt at home, as a player, as a decision-maker, as a person in general. I know that this honour would have meant a lot to him. Thank you very much for this wonderful gesture.”
Bayern are also planning a statue of Beckenbauer next to the one of club record goalscorer Gerd Müller in front of the Allianz Arena.
