Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund: Klassiker highlights
Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund is one of German football’s standout fixtures. Two of the nation’s biggest and best supported clubs, their clashes have since become known as “Der Klassiker” as they go toe-to-toe for titles in the Bundesliga and beyond.
The pair have been going at each other since Bayern’s maiden Bundesliga season in 1965/66, with ties crossing over into the DFB Cup, Supercup, League Cup and, perhaps most famously, the UEFA Champions League final in 2013.
A total of 123 matches have been contested to date, with the Munich club winning 55 of them, BVB 31 and 37 ending in draws after 90 minutes. Borussia’s biggest win in that time was a 4-0 triumph on the final day of just their second Bundesliga season together in 1966/67, but Bayern did get their own back less than five years later when they demolished their visitors 11-1 at the Grünwalder Stadion.
Fast forward to the present day and the clubs now face off at two of football’s most iconic stadiums: Bayern’s high-tech Allianz Arena and Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park – Germany’s biggest ground and home to Europe’s largest standing terrace: the Yellow Wall.
No one has scored more often in this historic fixture than Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker has represented both sides, netting 21 goals in 32 matches. In fact, he has found the back of the net in the last five Bundesliga meetings, which you can relive in the highlights below going back to the start of the 2016/17 season. Enjoy!
