Harry Kane brace sees Bayern brush past Frankfurt
Harry Kane scored goals in each half as Bayern Munich responded to a delightful Hugo Ekitiké leveller to take a narrow win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bayern Munich 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Goals: 1-0 Kane 9' (assist: Laimer), 1-1 Ekitiké 23' (assist: Pacho), 2-1 Kane 61'
Bayern had high hopes of extending a good burst of form that has taken them to three wins in a row ahead of their UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg in midweek. A promising start got the hosts on the scoresheet as Konrad Laimer won the ball and charged forward before laying it across for Kane to slot in. Eintracht showed they were in no mood to let the points out of their grasp without a fight, however, with Hugo Ekitiké turning inside and sweeping a gorgeous shot past Manuel Neuer to level. Both sides had chances in the remainder of an open first half, with Bayern coming close via efforts from Thomas Müller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting before Ansgar Knauff missed a chance to put Frankfurt in front. Raphaël Guerreiro then scooped the ball onto the post just before the break.
Knauff flashed the first shot of the second period wide as the game remained in the balance, with Eintracht enjoying the better of the play for a while. A VAR check on a Robin Koch challenge on Müller then suddenly handed Bayern the chance to retake the lead - which Kane duly seized by slamming a penalty past the outreached hands of Kevin Trapp. The second goal boosted Bayern and took the wind out of Frankfurt's spirited performance, with Joshua Kimmich having a chance for a third goal cleared by Tuta. The hosts dominated possession in the final phases to leave the victory in no doubt at all, although Kane had a couple of late chances for a hat-trick saved by Trapp.
