Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick says his side have missed Alphonso Davies' quality at left-back, after witnessing the 20-year-old's impressive display on his comeback from injury in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Davies damaged ankle ligaments against Eintracht Frankfurt on 24 October, but after recovering well over the past few weeks, was named in Bayern's starting line-up against Lokomotiv Moscow in the holders' final Group A match.

The 20-year-old made his familiar marauding runs up the wing to help out in attack, while his searing pace made life tough for opposing wingers trying to get past him.

"I think he could've played the full 90 minutes," said Flick after the 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena. The 55-year-old decided to err on the side of caution, though, and after checking to see how Davies was feeling during the game, he substituted him off for Lucas Hernandez in the 69th minute.

The 2019/20 Bundesliga Rookie of the Year had already made a big impression on his boss by then, however.

"He can be very pleased with his comeback," Flick said. "We're obviously pleased as well, because you could see that he’s got a certain quality that we've missed a bit. We're happy he's back with us."

Davies is likely to be given plenty more game time over the coming days, with Bayern playing Union Berlin, Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga before the winter break.
