Bayern welcomed Hoffenheim to the Allianz Arena for their first home match of 2025, looking to maintain their position at the top of the Bundesliga table. The hosts entered the game in fine form, having secured victories in their previous two matches. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, were struggling, winless in their last eight competitive fixtures. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany made four changes to his starting line-up, with Dayot Upamecano returning from suspension to partner Eric Dier in central defence.

Bayern's blistering start

The match began with Bayern asserting their dominance from the outset. It took just seven minutes for the hosts to break the deadlock. Sané received the ball from Thomas Müller and unleashed a powerful shot from 18 yards out, leaving Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann with no chance. The lead was doubled five minutes later when Raphaël Guerreiro finished off a well-worked move, slotting home after a clever pass from Harry Kane.

Kane extends the lead

Hoffenheim struggled to cope with Bayern's relentless pressure, and their task became even more daunting in the 26th minute. A handball by Kevin Akpoguma in the box led to a penalty, which Kane converted with his usual composure. The England captain's spot-kick made it 3-0, effectively ending the contest before half-time.

Sané seals the deal

Just three minutes after the restart, Sané struck again, finishing off a brilliant cross from substitute Mathys Tel. The goal, Sané's second of the night, highlighted Bayern's depth and the impact of their bench. Kompany's side continued to dominate possession and create chances, with Kane and Müller both going close to adding to the scoreline.

Gnabry adds gloss to the scoreline

With the result beyond doubt, Bayern made several changes, including the introduction of Serge Gnabry for Kane. The substitute made an immediate impact, scoring Bayern's fifth goal in the 66th minute after good work from Alphonso Davies and Guerreiro. Hoffenheim's misery was compounded by their inability to seriously test Manuel Neuer, with the Bayern captain largely a spectator throughout the match. The visitors' best chance came late on when Finn Becker forced a save from Neuer, but it was too little, too late. Bayern stay four points clear of defending champions Bayer Leverkusen at the halfway stage of the season, while Hoffenheim slip into the relegation play-off spot ahead of a crunch game with Holstein Kiel.

Player of the Match: Leroy Sané

Sané was the standout performer in a match full of impressive Bayern displays. The winger's two goals were the highlight of a performance that saw him at the heart of most of Bayern's attacking play. Sané's movement, pace, and clinical finishing proved too much for the Hoffenheim defence to handle. His first goal set the tone for the match, while his second effectively ended any slim hopes of a Hoffenheim comeback. Beyond his goals, Sané's overall contribution was impressive, as evinced by his involvement in 23 pressured situations, the highest of any player in the match.
