Bayern Munich's Malik Tillman earns first USA call-up
Talented Bayern Munich youngster Malik Tillman has been called up to the senior USA national team for the first time.
The 19-year-old, who only announced earlier this week that he was switching allegiance from Germany - whom he represented at U21 level as recently as March this year - to the country of his father’s birth, is the sole newcomer in Gregg Berhalter’s latest 27-man roster.
Tillman made his Bundesliga debut this past 2021/22 season, coming on as a 75th-minute substitute in a 5-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart in December. He also featured off the bench against Wolfsburg (Matchday 17) and Cologne (Matchday 19), as well as making his first start against Borussia Mönchengladbach in January (Matchday 18).
In all the attacking midfielder was part of Bayern’s matchday squad 17 times in the Bundesliga, and a further six in the UEFA Champions League, making the first of two outings in that competition this term against Dynamo Kyiv, before a brief cameo against Barcelona.
He is not the only Bundesliga representative in Berhalter’s squad. Gladbach full-back Joe Scally returns, having also been included in the camp last November, albeit without playing in any matches. Like Tillman therefore, he could make his senior international debut in June.
Midfielder Tyler Adams will also join up with his compatriots after RB Leipzig’s DFB Cup final date with Freiburg, with relegated Armina Bielefeld left-back George Bello also included.

Borussia Dortmund playmaker Gio Reyna will play no part as he continues his recovery from injury, while Augsburg’s Ricardo Pepi and Wolfsburg’s John Brooks were not selected.
The USMNT are meeting up in Cincinnati in the coming days ahead of their final home games as part of their preparation for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November.
They will play four matches, beginning with friendlies again Morocco (1 June) and Uruguay (5 June), before CONCACAF Nations League fixtures against Grenada (10 June) and El Salvador (14 June).
