Bayern Munich sign English defender Omar Richards from Reading
Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Omar Richards from English Championship club Reading.
Richards joins on a free transfer and will wear the No.3 jersey after signing a four-year deal through to 30 June 2025.
"We're delighted Omar is coming to Bayern," said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. "Omar is a technically fine player on the left of defence. He's very alert and we trust him to play a good role in our team."
Richards, 23, has become a key first-team player for Reading since his arrival from Fulham's academy in 2016, making over 100 competitive appearances. The left-back also earned his first England U21 cap in October 2019.
"My move to Bayern is a great honour for me. It's a dream come true," Richards enthused. "It fills me with pride to be able to wear with a tradition-filled shirt at one of the biggest clubs in the world. I hope I can help the team be successful in the future. I can't wait to appear for Bayern on the pitch. Mia san mia!"
Richards represents Bayern's second summer 2021 signing after RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.
The Londoner will have Canadian Alphonso Davies and 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Lucas Hernandez ahead of him in the pecking order at his new employers - though he has made a handful of senior appearances as a left-sided midfielder.
