Bayern Munich's Vincent Kompany to receive Bavarian Minister-President award

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany will be awarded Markus Söder's Personal Minister-President award, it has been confirmed.

The Bayern boss has been selected to receive the award from Söder, who is the Minister-President of Bavaria, for his achievements as well as his commitment to fighting racism. He will receive the award on Saturday at the Bavarian Sports Awards, which will be held at BMW World in Munich.

In a press release, Söder said, "Vincent Kompany is an exceptional coach with a clear playing philosophy, strong leadership, and charisma both on and off the pitch. Under his leadership, FC Bayern Munich shines with attractive, attacking football. With trust and a clear stance, he molds excellent individual talents into a likeable and inspiring team every season. The former “FC Hollywood” has become a successful “FC Feelgood.”

"He also demonstrates his clear stance on the issue of racism and exclusion. He has always made it clear that racism must never have a place in sports or in our society. His unequivocal plea for human dignity has impressed many people far beyond the entire world of sports. Thus, Vincent Kompany is not only a great figure in sports but also a role model who takes responsibility for our society."

Indeed, Kompany has shown a will to fight racism, as displayed in his passionate speech to support Vinícius Júnior after the Real Madrid forward was the subject of racial abuse when the Spanish side faced Benfica in the UEFA Champions League earlier this year. He also won a second consecutive Bundesliga title with Bayern in 2025/26, with the team scoring a record 122 goals.

Franz Beckenbauer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Thomas Müller and Sepp Maier are amongst those to have previously won the award. The Bavarian Sports Awards, meanwhile, have been held since 2002 to honour the region's sporting accomplishments and sport's positive impact on society.
