The Alte Försterei rejoiced in the first goal in a decade for Bundesliga journeyman Kevin Vogt as The Irons enjoyed one more home win of 2024/25, with the mighty Borussia Dortmund felled in the capital once again.

Yorbe Vertessen was also on target for Bo Svensson's men in Berlin on Matchday 6 but it was Vogt who wore the widest smile in the city after his first-half penalty paved the way for a 2-1 victory that kept Union perfect on home soil this season.

The 6'4" defender's previous goal came back on 18 October 2014 - or 275 games ago. In a remarkable twist of fate, Dortmund were also on the receiving end that day when Vogt was playing for Cologne. In fact, of the 33-year-old's four Bundesliga goals to date, three of them have come against BVB.

It was the first time the ex-Bochum, Augsburg, Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen defender took a penalty in the Bundesliga, in what was his 341st top-flight appearance. Although the visitors rallied in the second half through Julian Ryerson's goal, the Black-and-Yellows suffered a fourth loss away to Union in six games in Köpenick. Nuri Şahin's side were also outrun on Saturday, despite having far more of the ball.

Indeed, the Berliners set a new division-wide high of a collective 88.2 miles in a single game for the current campaign, highlighting the immense work-rate of Svensson's side.

A fourth consecutive home triumph in a row across two seasons represents a new Bundesliga best for Die Eisernen, while their three triumphs at the Alte Försterei this term have all come by a single goal. After a visit to Holstein Kiel on Matchday 7 following the international break, Vogt and his teammates will be back in Berlin as they look to stretch that run against Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of October.
