Borussia Dortmund Legends beaten by Flamengo Legends in exhibition match to honour Pelé
As part of celebrations to mark King Pelé Day, a team of Borussia Dortmund legends played an exhibition match against a Flamengo XI in Brasilia on Wednesday.
Local fans packed into the Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha as Dortmund and Flamengo paid their respects to the legendary Pelé, who passed away in 2022. The Brazilians edged the encounter 2-1, though it might have been more but for Roman Weidenfeller's smart penalty save.
The likes of hometown hero Kevin Großkreutz, cult figure Jan Koller, 1996/97 UEFA Champions League winner Julio Cesar and 2002 Bundesliga champions Dede, Evanilson, Ewerthon and Marcio Amoroso also featured for BVB.
