Borussia Dortmund Legends to take on Flamengo Legends to honour Pele
As part of King Pele Day celebrations, a team of Borussia Dortmund legends will take on a Flamengo XI in Brasilia on 20 November 2024.
Dortmund have announced that they will be sending a team of legends to honour the legendary Pele, who passed away in 2022, as they take part in a very special exhibition match in the Brazilian capital.
Set to take place in front of over 50,000 fans at the Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha on 20 November, the match will see the BVB legends take on their counterparts from Flamengo as part of Brazil's 'King Pele Day', a national commemoration of the all-time great, who scored his 1,000th goal in a match between Santos and Vasco da Gama on 19 November 1969.
With coaches Jörg Heinrich and Teddy de Beer at the helm, a team of world champions, Bundesliga champions and DFB Cup winners such as Roman Weidenfeller, Kevin Großkreutz and Jan Koller will all travel to Brazil and play for Borussia once more. The squad also includes seven Brazilians: Champions League winner Julio Cesar and 2002 Bundesliga champions Dede, Evanilson, Ewerthon and Marcio Amoroso, as well as Felipe Santana and Tinga.
