Borussia Dortmund qualify for 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
Borussia Dortmund will join Bayern Munich at the newly expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, world football's governing body has confirmed.
Dortmund's place was confirmed following RB Leipzig's defeat to Real Madrid in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League round of 16 on 6 March 2024. Leipzig were the only other Bundesliga outfit in the running to feature, but needed to reach at least the Champions League semi-finals to have a chance of overtaking Dortmund in the UEFA four-year rankings.
Dortmund will be one of 12 European clubs at the 32-team tournament, scheduled to take place in a number of US cities between 15 June and 13 July 2025, when sides from each of FIFA's six confederations will compete for the title of world champions.
BVB - Bundesliga runners-up last season - won the Champions League in 1996/97 before going on to lift the Intercontinental Cup, which FIFA recognises as the sole direct predecessor of the Club World Cup.
