Borussia Dortmund announce Ramy Bensebaini signing
Borussia Dortmund have reacted to the departure of Raphael Guerreiro by signing Algeria international defender Ramy Bensebaini from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Bensebaini, 28, joins Dortmund on a free transfer, with his Gladbach contract set to expire on 30 June 2023. Guerreiro's deal is also up at the same time, the club having already confirmed his exit.
"Ramy's in his prime," said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl. "In our talks with him, we saw his unwavering desire to play for titles with our team."
Bensebaini, who typically plays on the left-hand side of the defence, arrived in Gladbach in 2019 from French outfit Rennes. He made 113 competive appearances for the club, producing 25 goals and eight assists.
"I know what BVB are capable of and I'm sure that we, as a team, will build on the second half of the 2022/23 season," Bensebaini - a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations winner - said of his new employers, who finished the recently ended campaign as runners-up behind Bayern Munich on goal difference.
"I can't wait to be part of BVB, to play for titles and to experience the special atmosphere in Dortmund."
