After performing admirably for their clubs throughout the 2023/24 campaign, Bundesliga stars are now proving decisive on the international stage. Here, bundesliga.com takes a look at the how German football’s finest have helped light up the UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16…

Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has been one of the tournament’s stand-out players, and he got himself on the scoresheet for the third time this competition in the weather-interrupted, knockout victory over Denmark. With Germany still susceptible to a Danish equaliser, the 21-year-old pounced on a Nico Schlotterbeck pass and carried the ball into the penalty area before firing a clinical finish beyond Kasper Schmeichel. That strike saw him move joint-top of the Euro 2024 scoring charts and, with rivals Georges Mikautadze and Ivan Schranz already eliminated, Bayern’s ace is in pole position to take home the Golden Boot.

Earlier on Saturday, Switzerland kicked off the round of 16 with a 2-0 victory against Italy. While Bayer Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka pulled the strings in midfield, it was instead Augsburg forward Rúben Vargas who was star of the show. It was his stunning strike that doubled his nation’s lead. There was nothing Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could do as Vargas's effort nestled into the top corner.

The Swiss will face England in the quarter-finals after the Three Lions survived a scare against Slovakia. It needed a 95th minute goal from former Borussia Dortmund man Jude Bellingham to take the game to extra-time, but it was 2023/24 Bundesliga top goalscorer Harry Kane who secured the win, heading home at the back post. That was his second effort of the summer, and his recent record suggests more goals are just around the corner.

Spain were in action against surprise package Georgia on Sunday evening, and were ultimately comfortable winners as they triumphed 4-1, albeit only after conceding first. Players from four different leagues netted for La Roja, including RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo as he struck a delightful finish from the edge of the area to complete the scoring. That result sets up a mouth-watering clash with Germany in the last eight, and that, as well as the remaining round of 16 and quarter-final fixtures, could also see Bundesliga players have a major impact.
