Bundesliga's star shine at UEFA Euro 2024
After a final that saw Bayern Munich's Harry Kane and RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo face off for England and Spain in Berlin, the Bundesliga can look back on what has been a special UEFA Euro 2024 for its players...
From the very first moment, German football's finest have made their presence known. The tournament's first goal was scored by Florian Wirtz for the hosts against Scotland, while Jamal Musiala, Niclas Füllkrug and Emre Can also all found the back of the net.
Musiala and Füllkrug led the German charge, with the former netting three goals across the tournament - the joint most - and the latter twice, including the crucial last-minute header to secure a 1-1 draw against Switzerland, as well as Group A's top spot.
It is not only Germany's stars who have shone, though. Bundesliga-heavy Switzerland and Austria gave good accounts of themselves, with Marcel Sabitzer netting a famous late winner for the latter against the Netherlands, while Donyell Malen, Patrik Schick and Andrej Kramarić were on the scoresheet for their respective nations.
As the tournament has progressed, the Bundesliga's representatives became more and more decisive. Despite not initially starting, Olmo developed into a key player for La Roja and netted in the first three knockout fixtures, while Kane cancelled out Xavi's opener in the semi-final between England and the Netherlands.
Watch: Olmo vs. Kane in Euro 2024 final
Kane and Olmo have three goals apiece, joining Musiala at the top of the scoring charts, and those efforts are just a fraction of the 26 scored by Bundesliga players across the competition. That is 10 more than both the Premier League and LaLiga, 11 more than Serie A.
Now, as the dust settles on a thrilling month of action, Germany can be proud of putting on a fantastic event, and the country's top division has played an important role in its success.
