Alphonso Davies commits future to Bayern Munich
Alphonso Davies has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, tying the Canada international to the record champions until 2030.
Davies, 24, has made over 210 competitive appearances for Bayern since moving to the Allianz Arena from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019, aged 18. The Canadian's previous deal was set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.
“I am very happy to have extended my contract at this great club," Davies said in an official club statement."
"I came to FC Bayern when I was 18 and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position. Now I'm looking forward to another five years together. I’ve already achieved a lot here, but there’s more to come.”
Davies has established himself as one of the world's best left-backs in Bayern colours, playing an integral role in the club's historic sextuple of 2019/20 under Hansi Flick. He also won Bundesliga titles with Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel in charge, whilst helping Canada qualify for their first FIFA World Cup in 36 years in 2022.
“Alphonso Davies has become one of the best players in the world in his position at Bayern and has attracted a lot of interest," said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.
"The fact he wants to continue here with us shows Bayern’s status in international football and that Alphonso has found his sporting home in Munich.”
Bayern's next game is on Friday 7 February, when Vincent Kompany's side host Werder Bremen on Matchday 21.
The Ghanaian refugee camp-born No.19 has made 25 competitive appearances so far in 2024/25 for a Bayern side currently six points clear of defending champions Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.
