Christopher Scott: Who is Bayern Munich's latest teenage attacker?
Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies may be the latest teenagers to have established themselves in Bayern Munich’s first-team pool, but they could soon be joined by another outrageously gifted youngster in Christopher Scott.
bundesliga.com has all you need to know about the 18-year-old who made his top-flight debut on Matchday 28 of the 2020/21 campaign…
Age: 18
Club: Bayern Munich
Position: Attacking midfield
Country: Germany (2 U19s caps)
Key stats
Born in Räckelwitz, a town in far eastern Germany on 7 June 2002, Scott joined the Bayer Leverkusen academy as a seven-year-old in 2009. He would stay there for the next 11 years, progressing rapidly through the age categories to the extent that he scored eight goals in 11 games for the U19s in 2019/20, despite being two years younger than most of the other players.
He was already a Germany youth international at that point, and has represented the country of his birth at U15, U16, U17 and U19 level already. The 5’10” attacker can play in a variety of positions across the front line, although his preferred role is as a No.10, just behind the striker.
Scott joined Bayern in January 2020 and was initially earmarked for the club’s U19s. However, after recording three goals and two assists in four U19 Bundesliga outings, he was promoted to the reserves in November 2020. More impressive displays followed as he posted two goals and five assists from 12 starts and five substitute appearances, leading to Hansi Flick inviting him to train with the first team in early 2021. Scott was an unused substitute in the Matchday 27 victory over RB Leipzig, but made his debut in the following game, coming off the bench in the 66th minute of Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Union Berlin.
Plays a bit like: Kai Havertz
Constantly on the move and regularly finding space in central positions between the opposition defence and midfield, Scott is adept at receiving the ball on the half-turn from deep and instantly launching attacks. Quick, strong and an excellent dribbler, the right-footer is programmed to cause problems for opposing backlines, very much like fellow Leverkusen academy graduate Kai Havertz.
Did you know?
Scott announced his arrival at Bayern in style, scoring a hat-trick on his debut for the U19s on 20 September 2020 in an 8-0 triumph away to SSV Ulm in the U19 Bundesliga South/South-West division.
What they’re saying
“He’s got good speed, is good on the ball and has done very well in training.” – Flick on Scott
“Dreams do come true. Deeply grateful for my debut.” – Scott via Instagram after his first senior appearance
