Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick: "The way the team is performing is extraordinary"
Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick has spoken of his delight in his side's performances in recent weeks and that there "is only joy" after the Bundesliga champions completed the domestic double with DFB Cup victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
bundesliga.com rounds up the post-match quotes from both sides after Saturday's showpiece at the Olympiastadion…
Lars Bender (defender and captain): "We weren't in the game at the beginning. We lacked the courage, the trust, the experience. Then you go behind and then it gets really hard. Maybe you could tell that it was the first final for one or the other. But you have to be there from the first minute and have the faith to play such a team. There were moments, but unfortunately, we missed them."
Lukas Hradecky (goalkeeper): "Bayern were strong. The two goals we conceded gave us even more difficulties. Then we switched, but my mistake broke everything."
Hansi Flick (head coach): "We're proud to leave the stadium having done it. What the team has achieved in the past few weeks is sensational. The attitude is just fantastic. I'm very, very happy. The way the team is performing is extraordinary. Today there is only joy."
Robert Lewandowski (forward): "We played really well, attacked from the front and were defensively good. In the second half we showed that we're the better team and we wanted to be cup winners. When I scored the first goal, I noticed that the goalkeeper was a bit out of his goal. So I thought I would give it a try. It was a little surprise that it went in, but you always have to try it. I'm happy that we played well as a team."
Manuel Neuer (goalkeeper and captain): "In the past few weeks we've seen how motivated and hungry Bayern is. What we have achieved is something very special. The attitude was sensational. We have a little break now, and then we'll prepare very well and try, of course, to run in the triple."
David Alaba (defender): "We're absolutely delighted that we can bring the cup home. We actually wanted to try something different from my free-kick, Lewandowski was supposed to lay the ball off to me to shoot. It worked out, though."
Serge Gnabry (forward): "We're so happy that we got the double today. In the first half, we had the game completely under control and could've scored one or two more goals. After that Leverkusen had a lot of counter-attacks, but in the end, we won 4-2, and that's the most important."
Thomas Müller (forward): "It's a bit of a sad moment. If the fans are missing from such a cup final, it's not the same thing. We did well over a long distance, but it also hurts a bit."
