Edin Terzic shares heartfelt reaction to Borussia Dortmund's DFB Cup success
Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic took to Instagram to pay tribute to those who accompanied him and his team to this year's DFB Cup Final in Berlin.
The showpiece took place on May 13th, with Die Schwarzgelben seeing off Julian Nagelsmann's RB Leipzig in a 4-1 win thanks to a pair of goals each from Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland.
The victory gave Terzic, who took over from Lucien Favre in December 2020, his first major title in management as well as Dortmund's first major title since 2017, and therefore an opportunity to reflect on his journey to the top, which he shared with fans.
The coach shared two photographs with the simple caption "2012 - 2021 #09 Jahre" (2012 – 2021 #09 years). In the first, a youthful Terzic is seen wearing a black and yellow scarf; one of many Dortmund fans amongst the throngs watching the 2012 final in Berlin.
In the second picture, Terzic beams at the camera, holding the DFB Cup, which his team had so convincingly claimed, proudly before him. The comments were filled with messages of congratulations and fans urging him not to leave BVB but to stay on longer as part of the club's coaching team - with Borussia Mönchengladbach's Marco Rose set to take over in the summer.
In another post and related Instagram story, Terzic shared a montage of photographs from the 2012 final, in which a Jürgen Klopp-led Dortmund demolished Bayern Munich 5-2 in one of the most memorable finals in DFB Cup history.
Images of a full-to-bursting Olympiastadion and Terzic sharing smiles with friends were interspersed with the 2021 version hoisting the trophy alongside his Borussia Dortmund charges. Along with this, Terzic wrote, "I'm at a loss for words. An incredible story. Thank you very, very much to everyone who accompanied and encouraged us on this journey!"
While it's not certain what the future holds for the Dortmund fan-turned coach, it is clear that the man is Black and Yellow through-and-through, and will always have Dortmund in his heart. The responses to his Instagram posts show that he will always have a place in the fans' hearts, as well.
