Eintracht Frankfurt sign Brazilian defender Otávio

20-year-old Brazilian defender Otávio is joining the Eagles from Estrela Amadora in the Portuguese top flight and has signed a contract running until 2031.

Otávio made 22 appearances in the Portuguese top flight last season to help his club avoid relegation, having previously developed at Botafogo in his homeland.

Frankfurt sporting director director Timmo Hardung said: “In Otávio, we’re bringing in a young, highly talented centre-back with enormous potential for development. He’s a left-footer who is tall, athletic and quick, combining those attributes with a strong defensive mentality, which is something we specifically wanted to strengthen in our squad. We’re convinced he’ll bring us a lot of joy here at Eintracht.”

The 1.93-metre centre-back said: “I am very happy to wear the Eintracht Frankfurt jersey. Joining a club with such a rich tradition that competes in major tournaments is a dream come true and a very important step in my career."

Otávio will link up with the rest of the Frankfurt squad on their pre-season training camp in Grassau am Chiemsee as Adi Hütter gears the side up for their DFB Cup first round tie at St. Tönis on 21 August (6pm CEST) and Bundesliga opener on 29 August at Union Berlin (kick-off 3.30pm CEST).
