Bundesliga Fantasy: Top 5 must-haves for the 2024/25 season

With the new season just around the corner, it’s time for some important Bundesliga Fantasy decisions - particularly when it comes to where you’re allocating the big bucks.

bundesliga.com takes a look at five high-end players who are unlikely to disappoint this season…

Get your Fantasy squad ready now!

Alejandro Grimaldo
Position: Defender
Price: 20M
Club: Bayer Leverkusen

One of the key cogs in Leverkusen’s unprecedented unbeaten campaign, Grimaldo was a revelation last season running down the wing. However, unlike teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who costs a bit less at 18M, Grimaldo is also deadly from set pieces.

His array of taking talent and Leverkusen’s miserly defence meant he was the top-scoring player in Bundesliga Fantasy last season with 503 points, averaging a league-best 15 per game.

The Spaniard led the league with 13 assists last time out and netted a further 10 goals, including two against record champions Bayern Munich. Those talents have been with him throughout his career at Benfica, and there’s no reason to think he can’t again fly out the blocks this term.

Harry Kane
Position: Forward
Price: 20M
Club: Bayern Munich

No surprises here, Kane is an absolute must and if you fail to pick him up, you may well quickly be left behind. The Bayern striker broke numerous records in his debut campaign in Germany, including the most goals in a debut season with 36.

With a further eight assists, Kane had more goal contributions than any player in Europe’s top five leagues last season and will be spurred on to add even more after trophy heartbreak with Bayern and England. He was rested from the start in the DFB Cup first round, but struck late after coming on as a sub. New campaign, same old Kane.

Who are the OOP players to look out for this year?

Serhou Guirassy
Position: Forward
Price: 19M
Club: Borussia Dortmund

A sensation for Stuttgart last season, there’s no reason to think Guirassy won’t do the same for Dortmund this time around after a headline-making transfer. Across Europe's top five leagues, only Kane scored more goals than Guirassy’s 28, which was a new club record for VfB, who recorded their best finish in 17 years (runners-up).

It wasn’t just Guirassy’s goals that helped achieve that finish, but his link-up play and striker’s instincts, too. He dovetailed perfectly with Denis Undav, and BVB's array of attacking talents will be hoping for more of the same. A word of warning, though: he's currently nursing a knee problem and won't feature in the opening weeks.

Loïs Openda
Position: Forward
Price: 15M
Club: RB Leipzig

With all eyes on Benjamin Šeško at the start of last season, Openda was able to sneak in and take nearly all the headlines. The Belgian finished third in the Bundesliga scoring charts with 24 goals, as well as seven assists.

Having impressed in limited game time at Euro 2024, there’s little suspicion that Openda will drop off in 2024/25, particularly when you consider his endless hard work and close control that makes him a nightmare for defenders. Indeed, he needed just 40 minutes to open his account for the campaign in the DFB Cup first round and could be a beneficiary of the new expanded points system.

Florian Wirtz
Position: Midfielder
Price: 20M
Club: Bayer Leverkusen

The Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2023/24, Wirtz is a must-have after stunning the football world with 11 goals and 11 assists and the kind of unstoppable attacking play that is worth a ticket fee alone.

Watch: The best of Florian Wirtz

Wirtz carried his form into Euro 2024, scoring against Scotland and Spain as he showcased his extraordinary talent on the international stage. A player who seems to improve week by week under coach Xabi Alonso, there’s nothing stopping him upping his numbers in the months ahead.
