Gio Reyna and Youssoufa Moukoko send Borussia Dortmund U19s into UEFA Youth League knockout stage
Borussia Dortmund youngsters Gio Reyna and Youssoufa Moukoko underlined their quality once again on Tuesday, sharing five goals between them as they fired BVB’s U19s into the knockout phase of the UEFA Youth League.
Reyna, who only turned 17 a month ago, registered two goals and two assists in a 5-1 triumph over Slavia Prague that left them joint-top of Group F alongside Inter Milan, ahead of Prague and Barcelona.
The USA youth international has been a revelation since joining the club over the summer, and now has four goals in the competition, as well as three in 10 outings in the U19 Bundesliga, despite lining up against players three years his senior.
The attacking midfielder is held in such high regard at Dortmund that he toured his homeland with the first team on their USA trip in the summer, was included in the official UEFA Champions League squad and was on the bench – albeit as an unused substitute – for the first time in the Bundesliga on Matchday 14 as Dortmund beat Fortuna Düsseldorf 5-0.
Moukoko’s star, meanwhile, also continues to rise. Still just 15, his hat-trick in the victory over Prague took his tally to four in six games in European competition. In domestic action in the U19 Bundesliga, the Cameroon-born striker has an astonishing 20 goals in 13 games.
His exploits have made waves – and headlines – across the continent to such a degree that upon turning 15 in November he even received a signed present from Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
