Hamburg sign former Marseille midfielder Bilal Nadir
Hamburg have added central midfielder Bilal Nadir to their ranks, who joins the club on a free transfer. The former Marseille player follows Patson Daka and Martin Adeline through the door at Volksparkstadion as preparations ramp up ahead of the new season.
Nadir has signed a long-term contract at Hamburg and will wear the No.4 shirt.
"Bilal brings high footballing and technical quality. He's a player who always wants to have the ball and is intelligent in his movement between the lines. It means he's capable of changing the rhythm of a game and linking parts of the team," said HSV sporting director Claus Costa.
The 22-year-old brings a wealth of experience at club level, having made 53 appearances for Marseille's first team. After making his professional debut in 2023, a cruciate ligament injury in January 2024 sidelined him for nine months. He bounced back last season, however, making 28 appearances overall, of which he started seven.
Born in Nice, he has chosen to represent Morocco at international level, with two caps and one goal for the U23s.
"I'm really happy to now be a HSV player. I can hardly wait to meet the fans and play for Hamburg," he said after signing at the Volksparkstadion, before heading to Austria to join up with the squad at their training camp.
Nadir's first competitive match for his new side could be in the DFB Cup against Verl on 24 August. His Bundesliga debut could come away at Borussia Dortmund on 29 August.
