Hamburg sign Fábio Vieira on permanent transfer from Arsenal
Fábio Vieira has joined Hamburg on a permanent transfer from Arsenal, having impressed on loan at the Volksparkstadion in 2025/26.
Vieira was top scorer with seven goals and joint-best provider with six assists across 31 competitive appearances following his arrival on a season-long loan last September, helping promoted HSV stay up in relative comfort with a 13th-place finish.
“I’m very happy to be back. I already know the club, the fans, and many of my teammates. It feels great to be a part of it again. I knew from the beginning that there was a possibility for me to come back here. I felt that HSV had made a real effort to bring me back. Now I’m back and can’t wait to get started again,” said the 26-year-old after completing his permanent move from the English Premier League champions.
Meanwhile, sporting director Claus Costa said, "We all know what we have in Fábio. He was an absolute game-changer for us last season and possesses qualities that add a special dimension to our play. We are all the more pleased that he has clearly committed to our vision, the team, and the entire club. We are overjoyed that we were all able to complete this transfer together and that Fábio is now a long-term member of the HSV family."
Vieira, who has 25 caps for Portugal’s U21s, made 49 competitive appearances for Arsenal after first joining in 2022 from Porto, where he also had a loan spell in 2024/25. The length of his deal at Hamburg has not been revealed, while his new shirt number is still to be confirmed.
HSV began their campaign with a 3-0 win at Verl in the DFB Cup first round, before the Red Shorts kicked off their second season back in the Bundesliga with a 2-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund. Vieira could make his return to the field in a Hamburg shirt on Sunday when he and his new teammates host Mainz.
