Harry Kane gives update on Bayern Munich contract negotiations
Harry Kane has confirmed that talks are progressing on a new contract with Bayern Munich.
Kane’s initial deal at Bayern, from when he joined in 2023, is set to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season. Board member for sport Max Eberl had confirmed ahead of the campaign that “talks have begun” on an extension. The striker himself has now given an update on where things stand.
“The first meeting was this week,” the 33-year-old told the media after Bayern’s opening game of the Bundesliga season against VfB Stuttgart on Friday night. “But these matters aren’t decided in one or two weeks. There will be further talks about details. Talks have been positive. So far, so good.”
Kane may not have added to his 98 Bundesliga goals against Stuttgart, but he has made clear that his intention is to extend his time in Munich well beyond the originally agreed four years.
“I’d like to stay long term. We’ll have to see how many years that is. I’m 33 years old, so it might not be my last contract but it’s a big contract for me. I need to make sure that I’m happy and the club needs to make sure that they’re happy. The good thing is that there’s no panic from either side. I’m sure we’ll reach a point where both sides are happy.”
Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also addressed the media after Friday’s game and said of the subject: “The chemistry is perfect, so we’re completely relaxed about the matter. Whether it happens one day earlier or one day later is irrelevant.”
Kane’s time at the Allianz Arena has seen records tumble, smashing 146 goals in only 149 competitive appearances, lifting two Bundesliga titles, the DFB Cup once, two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups and claiming the personal accolade of the European Golden Shoe twice.
