Daichi Kamada rescues Eintracht Frankfurt a point at Hertha Berlin
Daichi Kamada cancelled out an early goal from Suat Serdar as Eintracht Frankfurt played out a 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin in the capital.
Hertha Berlin 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Goals: 1-0 Serdar 3' (assist: Lukebakio), 1-1 Kamada 48' (assist: Muani)
Hertha struck first as Chidera Ejuke made the most of a mistake by Kamada to release Dodi Lukebakio. The Belgian's cross was measured to perfection, allowing Serdar to thunder a header past Kevin Trapp. Kamada almost found immediate atonement, but summer signing Lucas Alario was unable to turn the Japan international's square pass on target with the goal at his mercy. Hertha responded through Serdar, who tested Trapp from 18 yards. Wilfried Kanga then fluffed his lines when well placed inside the six-yard area, the former Paris Saint-Germain youth player volleying Maximilian Mittelstädt's cross over.
Kamada fired off a warning shot late in the first half, but made no mistake with his next effort three minutes into the second. Randal Kolo Muani was the architect, dispossessing Filip Uremovic and steering a low pass onto the right boot of his unmarked teammate, who couldn't miss from inside the Hertha box. Lukebakio was twice foiled by Trapp, while Muani and Kamada shot wide. Substitute Stevan Jovetic dragged wide when through on goal, before getting his body in the way to deny Serdar a certain winner. Frank Willenborg consulted the pitchside monitor to overturn a late penalty decision against Hertha goalkeeper Oliver Christensen as the Matchday 2 contest ended all square.
