Jeremie Frimpong extends Leverkusen contract until 2028
Highly-rated right-back Jeremie Frimpong has committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Bay Arena until 2028.
The Netherlands international, who made the move to Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021, has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s leading full-backs. Particularly adept going forward, only Moussa Diaby (17) managed more than Frimpong’s 15 top-flight goal contributions (8 goals, 7 assists) for Die Werkself last term, and he already has one strike and three assists to his name this campaign.
“It’s a brilliant club”, said Frimpong upon putting pen-to-paper on his fresh deal. “I’ve been here almost three years now and the team keeps on growing and growing.”
This news is a clear statement of intent from the Leverkusen hierarchy. Xabi Alonso’s men currently sit top of the Bundesliga, and Frimpong's performances have contributed significantly to their rise.
Following the announcement, sporting director Simon Rolfes shared his delight, saying, "Jeremie Frimpong has not just developed into an extremely popular figure in our squad over the past few years.”
"At the moment, he is one of the best players in the Bundesliga in his position as an attacking right-back. The contract extension underlines Jeremie's importance to our Werkself.”
