Jürgen Klopp returns to Borussia Dortmund for BVB legends' testimonial!
Borussia Dortmund fans, it’s the news you’ve all been waiting – Jürgen Klopp will return to coach Die Schwarzgelben at Signal Iduna Park, taking his place on the sideline for Jakub Błaszczykowski and Łukasz Piszczek’s testimonial on 7 September 2024!
Despite the two having departed in 2016 and 2021 respectively, Błaszczykowski and Piszczek are yet to have a game in their honour at Dortmund’s home ground. That, though, will change in September during the international break, as numerous former BVB heroes turn out for the Poland internationals’ respective all-star teams.
And, as announced in a video on Dortmund’s Instagram page, it is then that Klopp will make his return to coaching! The 57-year-old will take charge of Błaszczykowski’s side, with current Dortmund boss Nuri Şahin, Neven Subotić, Sebastian Kehl and Marcel Schmelzer amongst those to feature.
The clip shows Błaszczykowski and Piszczek calling a “retired coach” before Klopp, wearing sunglasses, pops up on screen. The ex-Liverpool boss was in jovial mood – who wouldn’t be while on holiday in Mallorca) – and confirmed that he will be present in September.
Klopp departed Anfield after nine years at the helm in the summer and has since been enjoying his time off. It seems he is looking forward to the encounter, even claiming he would have been happy to coach both teams!
Both Błaszczykowski and Piszczek were part of the side, led by Klopp, that won the Bundesliga title in both 2010/11 and 2011/12. With the duo now having retired, it is the perfect time for them to adored by Dortmund supporters. Tickets are still available – visit the Borussia Dortmund website for more information.
