Magnus Carlsen to play chess for St. Pauli in 2024/25
The world's best chess player, Magnus Carlsen, has reached an agreement to represent St. Pauli in the upcoming 2024/25 Bundesliga chess season.
Having recently secured promotion back to the Bundesliga, there was more good news for St. Pauli on Thursday as the club confirmed the signing of Carlsen to their chess team.
"The WEISSENHAUS Chess Academy, founded by entrepreneur and patron Jan Henric Buettner, and the chess department of FC St. Pauli are entering into a long-term partnership," said a statement on the club's official website.
"In this context, Magnus Carlsen, the best chess player in the world, will play for FC St. Pauli in the upcoming Bundesliga season."

"I'm delighted to be part of the coolest brand in Germany," said the Norwegian grandmaster, a five-time world chess champion and the No.1 ranked player in the world.
"We're all really looking forward to having Magnus with us at the Millerntor," said Thomas Schüttler, head of St. Pauli's chess department. "We want to establish ourselves at the top in the long term."
