The Bundesliga’s incredible goals galore 2018/19 showing the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 how it’s done
Put aside England's Premier League and forget France's Ligue 1; say 'Arrivederci' to Serie A and 'Hasta luego!' to La Liga, the Bundesliga leads them all in the 2018/19 season so far in the statistic that matters most: goals - and especially so after a season-high 37 were scored on a single weekend on Matchday 19.
We've had 3-3s and 4-3s, 7-1s and 4-2s in what has been an electrifying Bundesliga season so far.
Altogether, the total number of goals after only 171 matches in the Bundesliga this term is 528 and no-one can touch the German top flight in terms of goals per game, making it the showpiece league in Europe in 2018/19.
The table compared with Europe's other top leagues speaks for itself...
1. Bundesliga (3.09 goals per game)
2. English Premier League (2.83)
3. Italian Serie A (2.69)
4. Spanish La Liga (2.58)
5. French Ligue 1 (2.55)
On top of the pile by an Autobahn mile are Borussia Dortmund, Lucien Favre's formidable outfit racking up 50 goals after their 19 league outings to date, including three against the defending champions, Bayern Munich, in Der Klassiker.
Indeed, Dortmund have been so deadly, the Black-Yellow behemoth bagged at least four goals in four straight Bundesliga games between Matchdays 5 and 8.

Goals galore in the Bundesliga
It’s not just goals-per-game which sees the Bundesliga leading the way in Europe, with other goal-stacked stats helping prove the league’s worth.
We have seen seven matches this season with six goals or more in the Bundesliga, more than any of the other top five leagues. Dortmund feature in three of those, with a 7-0 win over Nuremberg, a 4-3 defeat of Augsburg and Matchday 19's 5-1 thrashing of Hannover. The other four encounters were Eintracht Frankfurt’s 7-1 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bayer Leverkusen’s 6-2 defeat of Werder Bremen, Schalke’s 5-2 thumping of Nuremberg and Hoffenheim's 4-2 win in Freiburg.
Eight players have already reached double figures in the 2018/19 season, Frankfurt’s Luka Jovic leading the way on 13 goals. He is followed by Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer on 12, while Timo Werner and Sebastien Haller each have 11.
The Bundesliga has also seen fewer goalless games than any other league – and by a hefty margin. Just eight matches so far have seen no side hit the back of the net, while the next-best comes from the Premier League and La Liga, each with 16 matches without a goal. Serie A and Ligue 1 have both had to endure 19 such games.
After what seemed an endless wait for its return over the winter break, Bundesliga fans are now happily in a giddy haze of goal fever as nets continue to be tickled in the second half of the 2018/19 season. It’s football as it’s meant to be, and you can follow it all with us on bundesliga.com and across our social media channels.
