Norway international goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland returns to RB Leipzig
Norway international goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland has signed for RB Leipzig on a contract running until 2028, having previously left the club for Sevilla in the summer of 2023.
Nyland has rejoined Leipzig as a free agent after his contract with Sevilla expired at the end of June.
Nyland said: "When the opportunity arose to return to RB Leipzig, I didn’t have to think twice. I have many positive memories of the club and the people here, and I’m really looking forward to seeing them again.
"Since then, I’ve gained a lot of valuable experience in Spain. The World Cup with Norway was a very special highlight, which showed me once again how much I enjoy big matches and daily competition. I want to bring that energy with me to Leipzig now."
Marchel Schäfer, Leipzig's managing director for sport, said: "With Ørjan, we're gaining a very experienced goalkeeper whom we already know very well as a player and as a person. Even during his initial time with us, he demonstrated that he's an absolute team player, a reliable professional, and always ready to take on responsibility."
While Nyland made just two Bundesliga appearances in his first spell at the club, he provided a memorable moment in assisting Christopher Nkunku during a 4-2 win over Schalke on the final day of 2022/23, which saw the French striker crowned joint top Bundesliga scorer for the season.
The Norwegian previously made 18 Bundesliga appearances for Ingolstadt - who he played for between 2016 and 2018. He has 76 caps for his country and starred in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saving a penalty from Brazil's Bruno Guimarães in a dramatic 2-1 win in the round of 16.
Nyland is expected to deputise for Maarten Vandevoordt after rejoining Leipzig, with Péter Gulácsi recently leaving the club after 11 years.
