Eintracht Frankfurt have announced a parting of ways with head coach Oliver Glasner at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Glasner, 48, joined Frankfurt from Wolfsburg in July 2021 and led the side to a memorable UEFA Europa League triumph in his debut season at the helm, landing the club their first European trophy in over 40 years.

Glasner's Frankfurt reached the UEFA Champions League last 16 earlier this season and are also through to their first DFB Cup final in five years. However, a 10-match winless run in the Bundesliga has seen them slip from second in the table at the turn of the year to ninth with three games to go.

"We are of the opinion that after all the speculation and the agitation in recent weeks and months about the coaching position, clarity is required in order for the coach and the team to focus fully on their aims for the season and the cup final," said Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche.

"That clarity is now essential moving forward so that the coach and the team can completely focus on achieving the objectives for the season and the cup final. With that in mind, we want to work together on the best possible farewell and concentrate all our energy on our remaining games."

"I accept the decision of the club management, which has been explained to me in a reasonable way," Glasner explained. "It's not the time now to say goodbye or reflect, as we have a big mission ahead of us, and will give our all in the weeks ahead to set ourselves up for a big final together in Berlin with our performances at the end of the Bundesliga season and then take the DFB Cup back to Frankfurt.

"It's very important to me personally that Eintracht can enjoy more fantastic nights on the European stage next season."

Frankfurt face Mainz (h), Schalke (a) and Freiburg (h) in their final three Bundesliga fixtures of Glasner's tenure, before taking on DFB Cup holders RB Leipzig in this season's final in Berlin on 3 June. Unless they finish in the top seven, the Eagles will only qualify for European competition in 2023/24 by winning the cup.
