RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku flourishing after return to club
RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku has been firing on all cylinders since returning to the Saxony club this summer, helping his team maintain their perfect start at home in the Bundesliga.
After opening his 2026/27 Bundesliga account in RB Leipzig’s 5-0 victory over Hamburg on Matchday 3, Nkunku added to his tally with a hat-trick in his team’s 6-0 rout of Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 5.
His first arrived just four minutes after Ezechiel Banzuzi kickstarted proceedings in the first minute, before the attacker struck his second and third goals of the afternoon - and his 49th, 50th and 51st goals in Germany’s top flight for Leipzig across two spells - in a three-minute onslaught just before the break.

Lurking in anticipation, each strike exhibited his poacher-like instinct. Netting his team's second with a neat finish, Nkunku then capitalised on Banzuzi and Rômulo efforts spilled by Frankfurt’s Noah Atubolu to put Leipzig in an unassailable lead.
“It’s not as easy as it looks. You have to be in the right place at the right time,” explained the Frenchman, who showcased his famed balloon celebration.
With a remarkable four goals and one assist in five league appearances this term, Nkunku earned captain David Raum’s praise. “When he gets going like that, he’s incredibly important for us,” he said. “For me, though, the whole team won the day, because Christo doesn’t score those goals on his own.”
Indeed, Leipzig have been in free-scoring form in their three victories - the other coming against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 1 - at home this season, where they’ve struck 14 of their 15 Bundesliga goals.
“We need to show what we’ve produced in our last three home games with the same courage and conviction away from home as well,” explained Martín Demichelis, who has three wins and two defeats in his first five Bundesliga games as head coach of Die Roten Bullen.
Leipzig will look to carry on their goalscoring form when they host PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday (kick-off: 9pm CEST) before facing Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on 17 October.
