Just when you thought Robert Lewandowski was already as lethal as strikers come, think again: the Bayern Munich hitman believes he is capable of more.

Yes that's right. Not content with scoring 24 goals 26 competitive outings this term – to go with the 151 goals he notched in his first four seasons at the club - the 30-year-old wants more.

"I know I can still get better," he told Sport1. "That's always my objective. I always think that there's something I can do better."

This season, that has included providing for his team-mates. So far in 2018/19 Lewandowski has registered six assists, more than ever before at the same stage of a campaign.

"It makes me happy when I can give an assist," he said. "I'm always happy anyway whenever the team scores. There'll be games where I can get more goals and I need to be ready."

Indeed, with Bayern trailing Lewandowski's former club Borussia Dortmund in the title race, the Poland international knows the defending champions will have to be firing on all cylinders for the remainder of the campaign.

"We're six points behind and they have a better goal difference," Lewandowski said. "We'll need to see how we play. We'll systematically play an attacking game and get a lot of goals. That could be very important for our morale and self-confidence."

Although he is now 30 – traditionally considered the age barrier when a player's powers begin to wane – Lewandowski is confident he can keep playing for a long time yet in his restless pursuit of excellence.

"As long as I play football, regardless of whether I'm 30, 33 or 35, I know I can still perform. That's always at the back of my mind. I'm still hungry."
