Ryan Sessegnon joins Hoffenheim on loan from Tottenham Hotspur
Hoffenheim have secured the services of Tottenham Hotspur and England U21 left wing-back Ryan Sessegnon on a season-long loan deal.
According to reports in the English media, the likes of Southampton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Celtic, Hertha Berlin and RB Leipzig all showed an interest in the 20 year old, who is relishing the opportunity to play in the league which has made countryman Jadon Sancho into a world football star.
"I'm very happy to play for Hoffenheim," Sessegnon said. "First and foremost, thanks for welcoming me to this club. I'm very excited to get going. It's a club that produces young players into big players in one of the most competitive leagues in the world so I'm happy to be here and can't wait to get going."
Sessegnon shot to fame as part of the the Fulham team that gained promotion to the English Premier League as 2017/18 Championship winners. He was also part of the England U19 side that won the 2017 UEFA U19 Euros. The Londoner moved to Spurs last summer, but was restricted to 12 appearances in all competitions during the 2019/20 campaign. Nevertheless, he was called up by England U21s coach Aidy Boothroyd for their 2021 UEFA U21 European Championship qualifiers against Andorra and Turkey over the October international break.
Sessegnon could make his Bundesliga debut when Hoffenheim host Sancho's Dortmund on 17 October. He follows in the footsteps of Arsenal's Reiss Nelson, who spent the 2018/19 season on loan with the Sinsheimers, producing seven goals and one assist in 23 German top-flight appearances.
