Leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf fell to Kaiserslautern and Nuremberg won an 11-goal thriller against Regensburg, while Hamburg slipped up in Elversberg.

Cologne 1-2 Paderborn

Paderborn remain a firm part of the promotion equation after coming from behind to beat mid-table Cologne. The boys in blue were punished for not making more of their chances, when Cologne's Jan Thielmann volleyed in a spectacular opener against the run of play with 66 minutes gone. Paderborn head coach Lukas Kwasniok responded by introducing veteran striker Sven Michel, who duly levelled with his first touch, before completing his brace to seal a deserved win.
Nuremberg 8-3 Jahn Regensburg

Miroslav Klose’s Nuremberg team were made to work hard for the points against bottom club Regensburg on Friday night, at least initially. Der Club threw away leads at 2-0 and 3-2 before racing clear in the second half, with Julian Justvan netting a hat-trick in what is now the second-highest scoring game in Bundesliga 2 history. The results means Nuremberg now have five wins this season, while the silver lining for Regensburg is that they ended a run of seven games without a goal.

Karlsruhe 1-3 Hertha Berlin
Goals: 0-1 Maza 9', 1-1 Zivzivadze 45'+3, 1-2 Zeefuik 49', 1-3 Niederlechner 58'
In second spot going into Matchday 10, Karlsruhe suffered their very first defeat of the campaign, with visitors Hertha moving up to fifth as a result. Christian Eichner's team found themselves behind before the 10-minute mark when Ibrahim Mama scored, the visiting forward injuring himself in the process. KSC were on terms when Budu Zivzivadze hit the back of net in first-half injury time. However, with the hosts failing to take advantage of several chances after the restart, the Old Lady sprung forth and went ahead again through Deyovaisio Zeefuik. Veteran forward Florian Niederlechner added a third to make it two wins on the bounce for the capital club.
Elversberg 4-2 Hamburg

Hamburg missed the chance to go top, for a short while at least, as they succumbed to a 4-2 defeat at Elversberg. The visitors got off to the perfect start when Davie Selke popped up at the back post and tapped home Jean-Luc Dompé’s inviting cross, but Fisnick Asllani’s excellent equaliser ensured the two teams were level at the break. Asllani struck again eight minutes after the restart, before Luca Schnellbacher made it 3-1. Selke’s second gave HSV hope, but Jonas Meffert’s sending off halted their renewed momentum. Ruben Fellhauer’s sublime fourth ultimately wrapped up the points.
Schalke 3-4 Greuther Fürth

A previously evenly matched encounter burst into life with a quick-fire Fürth double that stunned the home fans at the Veltins-Arena. Roberto Massimo and Damian Michalski struck within four minutes of each other and although the hosts rallied via Max Grüger's effort at the far post, the Clover Leaves went in at the break with a solid lead thanks to Massimo's second. Schalke's woes continued after the restart with Felipe Sánchez seeing red and Noel Futeku subsequently bagging his team's fourth. Paul Seguin and Taylan Bulut reduced the arrears for the Miners, but it's now six defeats in 10 for the fallen German giants.
Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-4 Kaiserslautern

There was a flood of goals in this see-sawing encounter that saw Kaiserslautern spring a massive surprise on the league leaders. Daisuke Yokota was key for the visitors, setting up Daniel Hanslik for the opener and then scoring a stunner himself to level matters after the home side had taken a 2-1 lead through Ísak Jóhannesson and Myron van Brederode. The visitors made the most of this impetus and pulled clear through Ragnar Ache and Hanslik's second, leaving Felix Klaus' superb injury-time strike for the home side little more than a consolation. Kaiserslautern picked up back-to-back wins and climbed to provisional tenth, while the stunned hosts saw their lead atop the standings cut to a single point.
Darmstadt 1-1 Ulm
Goals: 1-0 Hornby 16', 1-1 Keller 18'
The hosts came into this game hoping to build on the 5-1 thrashing of Cologne last time out, whilst the resilient Ulm were looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats. Neither team was particularly sharp out of the gates, although Fraser Hornby found the opener for the hosts in the sixteenth minute, with Darmstadt’s first shot on target of the game. Ulm responded just two minutes later with their first shot on target, scoring through Aaron Keller. After two quick-fire goals, the first half fizzled out without much excitement. The second half picked up the pace a little, the Lillies attacking with more urgency and playing a little more directly. However, they couldn’t make their dominance in possession count and Ulm held on to get a point in this 1-1 draw.
Eintracht Braunschweig 1-1 Preußen Münster
Goals: 1-0 Philippe 15' (assist: Szabó), 1-1 Hendrix 16'
Despite still being early in the season, the stakes in this battle between 16th and 17th were clear from the off, with both sides setting a frenetic pace. The goals didn't take long to materialise, with Braunschweig's French winger Rayan Philippe bagging the opener on 15 minutes, but Münster hit back with a fine strike from Dutchman Jorrit Hendrix just a minute later. Although both sides played the rest of the match with full commitment and plenty of effort, the score remained level until full time. The shared points do little to improve the position of either side in the lower reaches of the Bundesliga 2 table.
Magdeburg 0-3 Hannover
Goals: 0-1 Voglsammer 14', 0-2 Voglsammer 23', 0-3 Nielsen 75'
Hannover put in an efficient performance to secure their first away win of the season in Magdeburg. Andreas Voglsammer met Enzo Leopold's corner to give the visitors the lead with a powerful header, before using his head again to poach a second after Dominik Reimann spilt a cross into the box up into his path. The home side eventually grew into the game and had nearly double the number of attempts of their guests on the day, but a resolute Hannover defence weren’t prepared to give FCM any route back into the game. Håvard Nielsen sealed victory for Stefan Leitl's side as he fired past Reimann and into the bottom-left corner to score his first competitive goal since January. The win sees H96 rise up to second in the league and just one point off the top.
